With the right mods, you can assemble a suit of Power Armor that provides unbeatable protection and unmatched utility. Damage mitigation is just the beginning—Power Armor mods can offer everything from custom paint jobs to integrated electronic devices.

You can earn modified parts by completing quests or defeating appropriately equipped enemies, but if you plan to craft your Power Armor mods, invest in all available ranks of the Science!, Blacksmith, and Armorer perks. You’ll need a supply of rare components, but collecting adhesive, aluminum, and circuitry is a good place to start.

Base Mods

Base mods determine the Damage Resistance and Energy Resistance offered by a piece of Power Armor. Raider Power Armor only offers two base mods (standard and welded), but more advanced models of Power Armor offer six levels of protection.

Material Mods

Most Power Armor parts offer slots for material mods. Options like lead plating, winterized coating, and explosive shielding grant bonuses as soon as they’re applied. In many cases, you must apply matching material mods to all Power Armor parts before a bonus is activated. Unlock additional Power Armor material mods by collecting Hot Rodder magazines and earning the trust of various factions.

Aside from Raider Power Armor (for which there are no material mods), each model of Power Armor offers at least one unique paint scheme:

Complete Brotherhood of Steel Quest: Shadow of Steel to unlock a BOS paint scheme for T-60 Power Armor. Earn promotions to unlock rank-based variations.
Complete The Institute Quest: Nuclear Family to unlock an Institute paint scheme for X-01 Power Armor. Miscellaneous Mods

Miscellaneous mods grant powerful bonuses to individual parts. Arm mods tend to improve different aspects of unarmed combat, while leg mods offer effects like improved sprinting, increased carrying capacity, and larger impact landings. In most Power Armor torsos, miscellaneous mods can add extra features like jetpacks, medic pumps, and tesla coils. Helmets can be modified to improve target acquisition or remove radiation from items you consume. Of course, this is only the beginning—you’ll find a variety of useful mods for every piece of Power Armor.

Headlamps

Every Power Armor helmet can accommodate a variety of headlamps. Equip new headlamps to change the color of the projected beam.

Modified Raider Power Armor

This suit of Raider Power Armor is geared toward unarmed combat. Every piece of this suit has been reinforced with welded plates. Both arms feature rusty knuckle mods that add bleeding damage to unarmed attacks, and the legs include overdrive servos to increase sprint speed. The torso’s onboard medic pump automatically uses a stimpak when your health gets too low, and the helmet’s rad scrubbers make it safe to top off your health with irradiated water.

Modified T-60 Power Armor

This suit of T-60 Power Armor has been modified for extra mobility and improved V.A.T.S. usage. Every piece of this suit has been upgraded with Model F mods for better protection. The The torso includes a jetpack for increased mobility and on-demand Impact Landings. The helmet’s V.A.T.S. matrix increases V.A.T.S.’ hit chance, and the custom hot-rod flames paint scheme boosts Agility. Both arms are equipped with optimized bracers that reduce the Action Point cost of power attacks, and the legs have kinetic servos that increase AP refresh speed while you’re in motion.

Modified X-01 Power Armor

This suit of X-01 Power Armor has been customized for melee combat. Every piece has been upgraded with Mk. VI mods and titanium plating for damage mitigation and durability. The torso’s tesla coils deal energy damage to nearby enemies. The helmet’s targeting HUD highlights living creatures, making it much easier to spot potential threats. The legs’ optimized servos reduce the Action Point cost for sprinting, and the arms’ optimized bracers reduce the Action Point cost for power attacks.
