Raising Hell at Bunker Hill

Father has another task for you—recover the synths that have escaped from the Institute and fled to Bunker Hill. Optionally gather supplies and ammunition for this assault (trading at the Institute’s synth equipment vendor). Then decide where your loyalties lie:

  • The Institute requires you to rendezvous with a Courser in the narrow alleys of the Charleston neighborhood and complete the quest as ordered.
  • The Brotherhood of Steel requires you to destroy the synths: Your enemies during this battle are Institute and Railroad forces.
  • The Railroad requires you to free the trapped synths. Your enemies during this battle are Institute and Brotherhood of Steel forces.
  • The Minutemen have no loyalty to any other faction, or a direct involvement in this quest. Bunker Hill becomes a settlement you can develop once this quest has been completed.

Even if you’re not loyal to the Institute, the Institute Quest: Mankind—Redefined will still be available after this quest.

The following assumes you are allied with the Institute. During your rendezvous with Courser X4-18, you receive some synth recall codes.

Synth Extraction Depends on Your Faction

Working with the Courser, engage in a protracted firefight against your chosen enemies. Battle your way into this stronghold, and access the utility basement trapdoor.

The interior contains machine-gun turrets and additional enemies. Find the synths in a subterranean living quarters. Your definition of “freeing” each of them depends on your faction loyalties. You can:

  • Reset them (as per Institute instructions).
  • Kill them (as per Brotherhood of Steel instructions).
  • Free them (as per Railroad instructions).

Optionally gather Caps from one when prompted—before your decision, if you wish. Then extract yourself from Bunker Hill.

Head west across Cambridge to the C.I.T. Ruins (north of the river), and find one of the many ground-floor entrances into the rotunda. Synths are advancing on a Super Mutant position throughout the three floors here. Ascend to the roof and explain yourself to Father.
