Apart from the hostiles living out in the wilds, most of the Island’s inhabitants belong to one of three community-based factions. So far, these three factions have managed to coexist, but tensions now seem to be at an all-time high.
Far Harbor
For the most part, the residents of Far Harbor are wary of outsiders. You might find a few friendly exceptions, but it will take a considerable amount of work to earn the trust and respect of the community as a whole. If you want to be accepted by the people of Far Harbor, it’s best to put the good of the town above your own wants. Complete any tasks offered by the locals, avoid lying, and do whatever it takes to keep this struggling village safe.
Acadia
Acadia was established as a refuge for freed synths, and DiMA, the colony’s leader, openly welcomes all peaceful visitors. However, the conflict between Far Harbor and the Nucleus continuously threatens Acadia’s already vulnerable residents. DiMA values tolerance, understanding, and discretion. If you hope to ingratiate yourself to the people of Acadia, be respectful, complete the tasks they offer, and avoid revealing any information that might put the colony at risk.
The Nucleus
This prewar submarine base serves is now occupied by the Children of Atom. Compared to their Commonwealth counterparts, residents of the Nucleus are fairly peaceful. However, their devotion to Atom—and the radioactive fog that covers the Island—keeps them at odds with the people of Far Harbor. Some members are more welcoming of others, but all residents of the Nucleus are willing to accept anyone who embraces their beliefs.
Old Alliances
The existence of a synth refuge is sure to be of interest to the Railroad, the Institute, and the Brotherhood of Steel. Involving one or more of these factions will trigger new quests, but it will also complicate matters with the Island’s inhabitants.
