The Ties that Bind

This quest becomes available after you’ve completed Far Harbor Quest: Rite of Passage. Mitch, the proprietor of the Last Plank, is concerned about his Uncle Ken. Despite the growing dangers of the Island, Uncle Ken refuses to leave his homestead at the National Park Visitor’s Center. Mitch asks you to check in on his uncle and—if possible—convince the stubborn old man to relocate to Far Harbor.

Travel to the National Park Visitor’s Center to seek out Mitch’s uncle. The area is riddled with traps, so it’s best to approach with caution. Uncle Ken isn’t exactly pleased to see you, and your arrival seems to have drawn some unwanted attention from a large group of Trappers. If you want to finish your conversation with Uncle Ken, you must first help him survive the coming battle.

Uncle Ken grants you the use of his Workshop and urges you to make the area more defensible. Whether or not you do so is up to you, but the Workshop contains enough components to build a variety of traps, turrets, and walls. If needed, you can also scrap available items to salvage additional building materials. When you’re satisfied with your handiwork, speak to Uncle Ken and ready yourself for the imminent attack.

Wait for the Trappers to arrive, then help Uncle Ken defeat the invaders by any means necessary. When the last Trapper is slain, return to Uncle Ken and resume your conversation. You can attempt to persuade Uncle Ken to leave his home, or you can simply leave him in peace.

Once Uncle Ken has made up his mind, return to Far Harbor and speak to Mitch. Regardless of the outcome, Mitch repays your kindness with some caps (about 610) and the recipe for his signature drink. You also retain permission to use Uncle Ken’s Workshop, adding the National Park Visitor’s Center to the list of settlements under your control.
