Possible Captives

In most cases, the only way to know exactly which creature you’ve captured is to open its cage. For example, opening a Deathclaw Cage can reveal anything from a standard specimen to a rare Mythic Deathclaw. The likelihood of capturing more powerful creature variants depends on your current level—the higher your level, the better your chances of trapping stronger creatures.

Small Cage Captives

Cat Cage

Cat Cages are only capable of trapping friendly cats, so a successful capture is guaranteed to yield a new pet for your settlement. House Cats are never aggressive and they possess no combat abilities.

Dog Cage

An active Dog Cage can capture a variety of canines. Junkyard Dogs are always friendly, but opening one of these cages can also reveal a hostile mongrel. In combat, all dogs use biting attacks to damage their targets.

Mole Rat Cage

This cage can capture a variety of mole rats, most of which have a chance to emerge with explosives strapped to their backs. Mole rats tend to burrow into the ground before ambushing their targets with biting attacks.

Mutant Hound Cage

In addition to the standard Mutant Hound, this cage has a chance to trap the considerably more powerful Glowing Mutant Hound. Like standard dogs, these mutated canines utilize biting attacks.

Medium Cage Captives

Feral Ghoul Cage

A Feral Ghoul Cage can capture a wide variety of standard ghouls, but it also has a chance to capture some Glowing One variants. Most feral ghoul attacks feature a combination of melee damage and radiation damage.

Insect Cage

This cage can capture a variety of radroaches, bloatflies, bloodbugs, and stingwings. Most flying insects favor ranged attacks, many of which inflict targets with some type of harmful effect. None of these creature types are hostile toward each other, so it’s possible to keep a variety of tamed insects within a single settlement.

Brahmin Cage

Brahmin Cages are only capable of capturing friendly brahmin, so a successful capture is sure to yield a new beast for your settlement. Even when it gets attacked, a domesticated brahmin typically refuses to fight back.
