High Confessor Tektus has some misgivings about a member of his flock. Although his own investigation has failed to yield any evidence of disloyalty, he hopes you might find something that confirms his suspicions. If you agree to help, the High Confessor gives you a note and sends you on your way.
Read the note to learn the identity of the follower in question (Sister Aubert), and then begin your investigation. Pass through the bulkheads to the north, and then continue to the engine room beyond the High Confessor’s chamber. Follow the walkway to the far side of the room and head down the steps to find Sister Aubert performing her maintenance duties. If you like, you can speak to Aubert and try to gauge her loyalty to High Confessor Tektus. Otherwise, pass through the bulkhead in the south wall to find Auber’s bunk.
Search Sister Aubert’s personal area to find a note tucked under the corner of her mattress. Review the message to learn about a footlocker Aubert shared with the note’s author, as well as a spare key stashed in the Nucleus’ locker room.
Recover the Footlocker Key from the Nucleus’ locker room, then return to the vessel and search the utility room east of the crypt. The footlocker mentioned in the note is located in the room’s northeast corner–open it to find the proof High Confessor Tektus has been searching for.
Read the note to uncover Sister Aubert’s true feelings about High Confessor Tektus: not only does Aubert believe Tektus is unworthy of his position, she blames him for the death of her beloved Edgar. Now that you’ve found evidence of Sister Aubert’s disloyalty, you must decide exactly what to do with it. The first choice ahead of you is whether or not to discuss the note with Sister Aubert.
If you choose to confront Sister Aubert about her note, she begs you to hand it over before High Confessor Tektus learns of its existence. You can surrender the note, urge her to flee the Nucleus, or tell her you need some time to make up your mind. Due to the precarious nature of her situation, you can also shake down Sister Aubert for whatever caps she’s carrying before you reveal your plans for the note.
Once you’ve decided how to deal with Sister Aubert, it’s time to report back to High Confessor Tektus. There are three ways in which you can conclude your investigation. Whether or not the note is still in your possession will determine which options are available to you.
Option #1: Give Tektus Aubert’s Note
If you refrained from giving the note to Sister Aubert, you can deliver it to High Confessor Tektus. Your successful investigation has not only provided Tektus with the evidence he needs–it has also established you as a faithful member of his flock. For your service, High Confessor Tektus grants you the rank of “Inquisitor” and gives you a unique apparel item: the Inquisitor’s Cowl.
Option #2: Convince Tektus Aubert is Loyal
No matter how you chose to deal with Sister Aubert, you can attempt to convince High Confessor Tektus that his suspicions are baseless. Of course, Tektus is less skeptical of your claim if you’ve already proved your own loyalty–to ensure that Tektus is as receptive as possible, complete at least three Nucleus Quests before you attempt to convince him of Sister Aubert’s innocence.
If you succeed in convincing High Confessor Tektus that Aubert is loyal, he grants you the rank of “Inquisitor” and the Inquisitor’s Cowl.
Option #3: Lie to Tektus about Aubert’s Note
If you surrendered the note to Sister Aubert, you no longer have the evidence High Confessor Tektus desires. If you’ve failed (or declined) to convince Tektus of Aubert’s innocence, you have only one remaining option: tell him that your investigation yielded no actionable evidence. However, this claim doesn’t sit well with Tektus, and you receive no reward for your effort.
