The First Experiment

This quest begins when Overseer Barstow selects Clem as the subject for her experiments. Collect the jumpsuits and Pip-Boys from marked location near the entrance hatch, then give one of each item to Clem. Clem automatically equips the Pip-Boy, but make sure you have him equip the jumpsuit before you close the trade window.

Once Clem is suitably dressed, speak to Overseer Barstow and follow her instructions. Build the Power Cycle 1000 Prototype and a terminal, and then wire the devices together. Connect a power source (a small generator is recommended) and use the terminal to select one of the three parameters for the experiment.

Experiment Parameters: Power Cycle 1000

Name Effects Barstow Reaction Settler Reaction
Additional Power Production Power Cycles will produce twice as much power (while in use), but will also include a small chance of killing the user. Very Positive Negative
Sustained usage Incentives Power Cycles will promote longer power-generating sessions with a very small risk of death. Relatively Positive Negative
Environmental Enhancers Power Cycles will produce minimal power with no chance of user fatality. Negative Positive

Confirm your chosen parameters and wait, sleep, or otherwise occupy yourself for one hour. After the Power Cycle malfunctions, speak to Clem and use the Workshop menu to repair the broken device. Report back to the Overseer to complete the quest and begin the next experiment.

The resulting Power Cycle 1000 variant can now be built at any settlement under your control.
