Clowning Around in Kiddie Kingdom
Step through the entrance as you discover Kiddie Kingdom, where you’ll hear a taunting voice threatening you. He mentions three locations that must be inspected: the Theater, Fun House, and Tunnels. Feel free to search for them in any order you like, and note that (assuming your quest is selected in your Pip-Boy) the locations of each area appear on your map compass. At this point, bring your best Charred Ghoul-slaying weapons to bear and take down these dashing corpses as you progress. Clear the entire exterior of these foes if you wish. Watch for the odd radroach and turret, too. Then visit the three locations flagged in your Pip-Boy’s objectives in any order you like, though for the full benefit of exploration you should enter the Theater last.
Fun House: Fun Not Guaranteed
Enter the Fun House and wind your way through the dirty mirror maze, watching for laser tripwires and mines at your feet. Feel free to shoot the glass, especially as you encounter ghouls and radroaches. Enter the moving conveyor-belt corridor, watching for grenades dropping from the ceiling (retreat back), jumping so you can propel yourself forward, and turning right (west) into the waterlogged Bottle Jumps room with two spinning Nuka-Cola bottles.
Leap to the first, shooting ghouls in the vicinity, then the second as the attached metal platform becomes accessible, so you can ride on the second bottle to the blue-hued exit. Search the Hypno Halls for a magazine (hack the terminal (Novice) left of the entrance door to reduce the hypnotic effects), then attempt to maneuver southward to a moving cylinder tube and exit door. Pass through the crazy house to the red door, and into the Spinning Room with a green spiral rotating floor and a multitude of doors around the perimeter.
Slay the ghouls here, then open all of the doors if you wish to inspect each of the cubby holes (for the ancient pop-culture references, if nothing else). The exit door is fourth from the entrance door (if you’re moving clockwise around the room), northeast and colored red. Now exit through the Cappy room, turning left afterward to check out an upper control area with a terminal. Use it to tweak the different rooms until the objective clears. Don’t forget to grab the Nuka-Lixir Recipe on the console before leaving! Then unlock the chained door and exit.
Tunnels: A Vanishing Trick
Head into the covered tunnel entrance, negotiating to the side of the still-functioning ride cars, go to the Employee Tunnel entrance, and head inside. Listen to Oswald berating his ghoul chum, heading down into the green goo of the generator room to peer through a side window to watch the conversation if you wish. Then drop onto the gantry and work your way to the metal door.
Oswald has disappeared in a puff of smoke, leaving the ghoul to be mowed down by you. Grab the Kiddie Kingdom Tunnels Key, and check the terminal for some backstory on the Pump Control System and the ability to turn off those pesky mist sprayers that coat you in radiation, located throughout this part of the park. You can then retrace your steps, or explore the tunnels via the hole in the wall of the recreation room with the pool table; this (eventually) leads to a second exit where you can use the key you picked up. Back on the surface, Oswald simply restarts the mist sprayers. Curses!
Theater: King of the Castle
Venture into King Cola’s Castle, working your way across the battlements and dropping ghouls until you reach an upper inner-courtyard and theater entrance. The theater is an interior area known as King Cola’s Court. Oswald lets you know the show is about to begin as you enter. Push the double red doors, and wait for Oswald to appear onstage in a puff of smoke.
He prattles on about receiving actual magic as a gift after the bombs dropped. He resurrects some ghouls, so begin combat, watching for electrical attacks from his sword. After damaging him enough, he disappears. He tells you to meet him on the roof to end these antics once and for all. Search the theater for a Nuka-Cola Berry recipe (on a desk in one of the ‘green rooms’), before heading to the elevator and ascending to the roof.
Oswald appears and tells you to leave, and your responses in the conversation you have can vary. You can:
- Refuse to believe in this cure, and make aggressive answers to initiate combat with Oswald. Kill him, gather his loot, and the objective completes. This is the only way to acquire his Magician’s Tuxedo.
- Charisma (Hard) persuade him to leave, and that his beloved Rachel isn’t coming back. He hands over his loot, and the objective completes.
- If you located the village of Bradberton, and searched one of the ruined homes (in the southeast part of town) to discover the corpse of the ghoul adventurer Rachel Watkins, then secured and listened to her Holotape, you can explain her sad demise, show him the Holotape, and a dejected Oswald leaves without persuasion or combat.
No matter your choice, you receive the Sword of Wonders and Oswald’s Tophat as a reward.
With Oswald out of the picture, you can read his notes on the terminal nearby, (optionally) turn off the mist sprayers once and for all if you wish, and then hoist the flag of the gang faction you favor (on the nearby roof of this castle). This quest then concludes.
