The Final Experiment

Overseer Barstow’s final experiment is one of her own design, and her expectations are very high. Build and power the Slot Machine Prototype, then connect a terminal and select a set of parameters for the experiment.

Indentured Servitude Slot Machines generate 3 Bottlecaps per settler each day. Very Positive
Customer Profiling Slot Machines produce moderate Happiness and generate 1 Bottlecap per settler each day. Relatively Positive
Lost Revenue Slot Machines produce increased Happiness but generate no Bottlecaps. Negative

Allow Clem to gamble for one hour; then speak to Overseer Barstow to discuss the results. Depending on the choices you made up to this point, the conversation will go one of three ways:

  • If all four of the completed experiments elicited positive reactions from Overseer Barstow, she’s pleased with the results and decides to leave Vault 88. At this point, you can attempt to convince Overseer Barstow to stay.
  • If the completed experiments elicited a combination of positive and negative reactions from Overseer Barstow, she has mixed feelings about the results and decides to leave Vault 88. At this point, you can attempt to convince Overseer Barstow to stay.
  • If all four of the competed experiments elicited negative reactions from Overseer Barstow, she considers the project a failure and decides to leave Vault 88. In this case, Overseer Barstow cannot be convinced to stay.

Regardless of Overseer Barstow’s reaction to the experiments, she grants you the “Legend of Vault 88” jumpsuit when the conversation ends. Your selected Phoropter variant can now be produced at any settlement under your control–as can any Workshop objects that were previously exclusive to Vault 88.
