Truth and Consequences
Are you a little uncomfortable palling around with Raiders? Do these reprobates make you sick? Or do you simply want to slay everyone associated with the Raider gangs in and around this theme park? Then Main Quest: Open Season is for you! This quest can be started in a variety of ways, but the timing of completing this quest should be taken into consideration. Consult the possible endings at the end of this section to help you decide whether you wish to commence this quest, and how you would like it to end.
Quest Commencement
You can start this quest at any time. In fact, you can have it active before you even visit Nuka-World. But it’s worth considering when precisely to do the deed. For now, start Main Quest: Open Season in one of the following ways:
- You can visit Preston Garvey, who starts off in the Museum of Freedom (in Concord), but may be at one of your settlements. The Minutemen have a hatred of Raiders, so it makes sense (if you’re firmly allied with him) to massacre all the Raiders on his behalf.
- You can start a fight and massacre Porter Gage (whom you meet when arriving in Nuka-World), which turns the other Raiders hostile. Gage is a go-between, and killing him turns the theme park into an even more dangerous hellhole. Your only option is to rid the park of the Raider gangs. Note that you can remain hidden, execute Raiders, and continue to stealthily rid the park of these foes, but non-boss Raiders respawn after three days.
- You can visit Mackenzie Bridgeman, the physician at the Nuka-Town USA market. She, along with the other traders, are all enslaved by the Raiders; she’s hoping you’ll slay the three faction leaders and free the traders. This is the easiest way to begin this quest, and you don’t need to follow through on her pleas until you’re ready.
Getting Rid of the Raiders
You now have four targets to find and execute. They are:
- Nisha, leader of The Disciples.
- Mags and William Black of The Operators.
- Mason of The Pack.
Be warned that as soon as you start an aggressive, weapon-filled execution of any of the four gang bosses, every one of the Raiders throughout the theme park turns hostile!
A Raider-Free Ending
Are you expecting a rich reward for a protracted massacre of all Raiders within Nuka-World? Then you’re in for a disappointment. Although morally pure, slaying the four leaders and (optionally) all other Raider foes grants you little except gratitude from Mackenzie and Preston. You may still be able to experience the individual quests within each zone (such as Star Control in the Galactic Zone), but there are no flags to hoist up poles.
Why not complete the majority of the Main Quests first, before double-crossing the Raiders after Main Quests: Home Sweet Home and Power Play? If you attempt this plan, your alliance with the Minutemen and Preston Garvey suffers irrevocable harm, and you cannot return any Raider-assigned settlements in the Commonwealth back into the hands of your previous allies.
You must decide whether to forgo previously-assigned Commonwealth settlements and your friendship with Preston, or to relinquish command over the Nuka-World Raiders.
If you finish this quest, the Nuka-World power plant door becomes accessible, enabling you to restore power, independent of completing the Nuka-World Main Quest line.
The optimal time to finish this quest? If you’re concerned about your reputation with Commonwealth factions and settlements, you shouldn’t start to hand them off to raider gangs. So complete The Grand Tour, to the point that Main Quest: Home Sweet Home is accessible. Unfortunately, you can’t gather the Perks and weapons from your favored two gangs, as you must start the double-cross. Though you also have to skip the Radiant Quests and final two Main Quests (Home Sweet Home and Power Play), you keep your alliance with Preston intact.
Or, you can throw your lot in with these anarchic Raider types, and ignore this quest.
