When you’ve concluded your business with Jezebel, return to Ada and discuss your progress. Ada believes she’s located the Mechanist’s Liar. Before you head out, however, you must utilize Jezebel’s M-SAT plans. Return to your Robot Workbench and use the following materials to equip Ada (or a new Automatron) with a special M-SAT mod:

Once complete, Ada reveals the location of the Mechanist’s facility. Take your specially equipped robot companion and travel to the RobCo Sales & Service Center located to the northwest of the Boston Airport.
Enter the building and lead your robot companion down to the strange device marked by your Pip-Boy. Have your companion activate the access port to reveal a hidden passage to the Mechanist’s Lair. A RobCo Sales & Service Key is located on the file cabinet near the building’s rear exit; consider adding it to your collection before proceeding.

Decontamination
The M-SAT is required to access various areas within the Mechanist’s Lair, so keep your robot companion close. A thorough search reveals many useful items, but the facility also contains some formidable security measures—including a series of tripwires in the decontamination area. Disarm the individual tripwires, or use the passage just past the nearby Fusion Core to slip into the security office. From there, you can hack the decontamination control terminal (Advanced) and deactivate all of the tripwires, or pick the locked security door (Expert) to simply bypass the tripwires.
Fight your way to the access port at the end of the decontamination area, then have your companion open the path to the facility’s production wing.
The Production Wing
The facility’s production wing is filled with useful items and dangerous enemies. Conduct a thorough search of the area as you follow the corridor past the charging stations and into the quality control offices.
Search the quality control offices for items of interest, then locate the stairs near the chief engineer’s terminal and head up to the next level.
The upper offices overlook some assembly lines. Follow the stairs down to the assembly floor, neutralize the waiting robots, and approach the ramps at the end of the room. When the coast is clear, climb the narrow ramps to the left and use the button at the top to close the gap in the retractable walkway.
Continue across the walkway and through the nearby doors to find another access port mounted within a small utility area. Activate the access port and leave the production wing.
The Facilities Wing
After leaving the production wing, look for the access port across the enclosure. Have your robot companion activate the port, then head through the open door and into the facilities wing. Follow the pipe-lined corridor past the power substation to find a set of tracks leading into the parts warehouse. Use the nearby button to raise the warehouse door, then head inside. Fight your way across the parts warehouse and follow the stairs up to the management office.
Continue through the management office to find a suspended platform. Activate the button and allow the platform to carry you back across the length of the parts warehouse. When the platform stops, step onto the landing and follow the corridor to find another access port. When you’re ready, activate the port and exit the facilities wing.
The Research Wing
After leaving the facilities wing, follow the corridor down to the research wing entrance. Activate the nearby access port, then head through the open door. The research wing contains a variety of useful items, so the area is well worth exploring. However, if you’re particularly eager to confront the Mechanist, you can bypass the forfeiture office (which contains property storage rooms) and head straight for the holding block to the north.
The holding block contains several locked cells, an upper-level observation area, and a freight elevator. When you’re done exploring the holding cells, use the button at the end of the corridor to summon the elevator and ride down to the research labs.
Once you reach the research labs, you must find a way into the Robobrain assembly area. There are two basic methods for accomplishing this task:
- Neutralize the hostile robots near the incinerator and search the Robobrain wreckage to collect the Medical Terminal Password. Locate the Robobrain assembly area east of the incinerator and use the nearby terminal to unlock the security doors.
- Steer clear of the incinerator alcove, sneak past the hostile robots, and hack the terminal (Master) located outside of the Robobrain assembly area.
Enter the Robobrain assembly area and activate the access port at the end of the corridor to reveal the heart of the Mechanist’s Lair.
Confronting the Mechanist
The Mechanist has taken refuge in the facility’s control center, but this foe is far from helpless. After a brief conversation, hostile robots flood the area. Prepare your weapon and defend yourself from the Mechanist’s minions.
Surviving the first wave of enemies grants you a moment to catch your breath, but the battle is far from over. Heal, reload, and prepare for another round of combat. In addition to more powerful robots, the Mechanist utilizes environmental hazards and self-destruct subroutines. During the fight, listen to the Mechanist for clues about incoming threats.
Defeat the remaining robotic minions to force the Mechanist into another conversation. Once this happens, you can:
- Convince the Mechanist to step out of the control center to talk.
- Provoke the Mechanist into leaving the control center to fight.
Either option can be achieved through basic dialogue, but the conversation includes some optional speech challenges.
If you opt for a peaceful resolution, the Mechanist surrenders the password to the facility’s control console. Use the password to cancel the security alert, then speak to Isabel to receive the Mechanist’s costume pieces. If you choose a violent outcome, you can collect the same items along with a unique laser pistol from the Mechanist’s remains.
