Make Yourself at Home
This quest is triggered during Vault-Tec Quest: A Model Citizen, or when you access a Workshop contained within one of Vault 88’s sealed sectors. Your task is to find and reactivate Vault 88’s three remaining Workshops. When you’re ready to do so, use the Workshop menu to clear a path through each of the site’s three sealed sectors. Just look for the scrapable rockslides around the border of the main area.
Each sealed sector contains (among other things) a Workshop and a Vault-Tec Control Board. To complete the quest, you must recover all three control boards and use them to activate the corresponding Workshops.
At the start of the quest, objective markers are used to indicate each of the three Workshop locations. Attempting to access a locked workshop will reveal the position of the required Vault-Tec Control Board. Simply collect the control board, unlock the related Workshop, and move on to the next sector.
Of course, each section also contains a variety of hostile enemies and numerous radiation hazards. Take proper precautions, and be prepared to defend yourself at all times–especially while using the Workshop menu to clear obstructions from your path.
The North Sector
If you intend to fully explore Vault 88, consider beginning your search in the North Sector. This path is infested with molerats and ghouls, so make sure you’re geared to deal with these enemies.
You can save yourself a bit of backtracking if you collect the North Sector’s control board on your way to the Workshop. Look for this item on the cabinet near the end of the subway ruins. If you’re having trouble finding it, just follow the nearest objective marker to find the North Sector Workshop and double back when the board’s location appears on your compass.
As long as you stick to the main path, you’ll find the North Sector Workshop at the top of a long slope. Once you’ve unlocked this Workshop, you can continue along the main path to head directly to the North-East Sector.
The North-East Sector
Until you’re familiar with the North-East Sector, it can be a fairly difficult area to navigate. As such, it’s recommended that you enter this area via the North Sector, after unlocking the North Sector Workshop. In either case, the North-East Sector’s main path contains a variety of molerats and ghouls.
If you opt to approach from the North Sector, simply follow the nearest objective marker to find the North-East Sector Workshop. Interact with the Workshop to receive the location of the corresponding control board. This method involves relatively little backtracking, and it makes locating the required control board much easier.
The North-East Sector’s control board is located in a small utility room at the bottom of a concrete stairwell. If you’ve already visited the sector’s Workshop, use the provided objective marker to find this item. However, if you opted to approach from the Vault’s main area, you’ll pass by this room on your way to the Workshop–in this case, make sure you search the utility room before you head up the stairwell.
Once you’ve collected the control board, use it to unlock the North-East Sector Workshop.
The East Sector
The East Sector is relatively small and easy to navigate, but it’s also one of Vault’s most dangerous areas. You’ll face the odd ghoul or two, but the real threat is a group of Mirelurks lead by a queen.
Although it’s possible to enter the East Sector by way of the North-East Sector (using the Workshop menu to clear a path), it’s strongly recommended that you enter from the sealed entrance in the Vault’s main area. This helps ensure that you have the time and space needed to plan your opening attack.
The East Sector control board is located fairly close to the Workshop. If you choose to enter from the Vault’s main area, look for the doorway along the south side of the main entrance. Clear out the waiting ghouls, grab the control board, and continue toward the marked objective. Otherwise, just interact with the East Sector Workshop to reveal the control board’s location.
As you approach the East Sector Workshop, keep an eye out for nearby Mirelurks. Try to pick off lesser enemies before their queen notices your presence. When you’re ready, move to the end of the tracks, defeat the Mirelurk Queen, and activate the East Sector Workshop.
Activate all of Vault 88’s Workshops to complete the quest.
