Building a War Machine
Head to Boston Airport. Proctor Ingram’s special project is the reconstruction of a massive war machine. It looks like it needs a lot of work to get up and running. In fact, a fellow scientist is required to help:
- If you failed to convince Doctor Li to join you (or if you killed her) during Brotherhood of Steel Quest: From Within, Plan A occurs.
- If you completed Brotherhood of Steel Quest: From Within and convinced Doctor Li to join, Plan B occurs.
Plan A: Finding Professor Scara
Proctor Ingram tells you to find Professor Scara. She hands you the following to help convince her to help.
Proctor Ingram has tasked you with finding a robotics expert in Diamond City named Professor Scara and asking for her assistance. At the Science! Center (in Diamond City Market), converse with Doctor Duff. She hasn’t seen her colleague Scara for over a week after she left for a field expedition. Perhaps you can help?
Journey to the General Atomics Galleria, north into the Commonwealth. Enter the Back Alley Bowling building and find Professor Scara inside.
Plan A now concludes.
Plan B: Speaking to Doctor Li
In order to get the war machine’s power systems stabilized, Proctor Ingram has asked you to speak to Doctor Li on the Prydwen. Head to the main deck, and after a conversation with you, she seems tentatively convinced.
Plan B now concludes.
Magnets. How Do They Work?
Back at Boston Airport, Proctor Ingram requires the building of electromagnetic actuators. She hands you a build list. All of the components are stored in Boston Airport’s workshop. Well, all of them except one: a high-powered magnet.
Electromagnetic Actuators List
Or, as high-powered magnets can be scrapped, they may be found throughout the Commonwealth, or sold by vendors too.
You need to recover a high-powered magnet. One of the (random) hospital ruins should have the part that you need.
Head to the location indicated on your Pip-Boy, and beware of local dangers. Find the magnet, usually inside a marked trunk with other items.
Back at the airport’s workshop, access the Special menu. Build four actuators, using the following components (required for each one, with the exception of the high-powered magnet):
- Build with: Circuitry (5), Screw (1), Steel (10), Fiber Optics (3), Rubber (5), High-Powered Magnet (1)
An Almost Unattainable Arsenal
Inform Proctor Ingram of your progress. Naturally, you’re not done yet. You need fully loaded Mark 28 Nuclear Bomb packs for the war machine’s weapons systems. Meet Scribe Haylen at the new Primary Location Waypoint Echo, on the edge of the Glowing Sea. You’re given a distress pulser to pinpoint the position of the nukes when you find them. Haylen’s team will extricate them.
Head roughly southwest into the Glowing Sea, and enter Sentinel Site Prescott (pictured). Beware of Radscorpions and other irradiated dangers along the way.
Descend the outer gantry. Locate the terminal at the base of the structure and abort the launch sequence, allowing all blast doors to be opened (via terminals). Open the adjacent blast door. Locate the cylindrical tunnel. Beware of Feral Ghouls.
Wind your way through cylindrical and concrete tunnels, through holes, and along waterlogged passages, watching for more ferals. At the warehouse control room, you encounter Brother Henri and Atom’s Wrath (an Assaultron). You can kill them, either before or after the conversation. Locate the password on Henri’s corpse and use it to unlock his terminal and open the doors.
The stockpile is now accessible. If Paladin Danse is your current companion, speak to him and he agrees to stay and defend the stockpile.
Return to Proctor Ingram to inform her of your progress. She’s happy enough with your progress to let you press the power transfer switch and power up the war machine. Afterward, accept an impressive reward:
