Destiny 2 eGuide Public Events

Full Public Event Types (Eight Types, 34 Total)

This section details the eight different Full Public Events, which Sectors have access to the event type, and how to both complete it and achieve a Heroic rating for each of them.

Cabal Excavation

“Taking a drill from the Red Legion”

Overview: A Cabal ship appears and drops in a drilling rig. Several impressively potent lasers firing down missiles guard it, with Cabal troops to back up the drill itself. Capture the drill from the Cabal.

Locations:

EDZ: Winding Cove

Titan: None

Nessus: Artifact's Edge

Io: Lost Oasis, The Rupture

Total: 4

Summary: Once the drilling rig lands, you are directed to stand in the circular capture footprint around the drill itself. Red lasers and white ground target circles are a prequel to missile fire, which drops randomly around the drill. Watch for the targeting laser before the mortal drops to avoid these attacks.

Cabal troop reinforcements, including the expected Legionaries, Incendiors, Phalanxes, and Psions, appear to thwart you. You must neutralize them despite your lack of cover, as you must stay within the drill footprint. Fully capture the drill before the time runs out.

Heroic Objective: Keep an eye on the percentage countdown. When the drill has been 30 percent captured, a Cabal Mosquito ship flies around the area of the drill and shoots at you. It periodically flies off and then returns.

Destroying the Mosquito triggers the Heroic objective, and a Boss Centurion appears, dropping in from a pod. You must defeat the Centurion to grant Guardians Heroic tier rewards.

Glimmer Extraction

“Defeat the extraction crews”

Overview: Those with previous Destiny experience may remember a similar event to this. A small mining drill and a complement of Fallen are attempting to mine Glimmer. You’re here to stop this from happening in as many locations as the Fallen appear during this event.

Locations:

EDZ: Trostland, The Sludge, The Gulch, Firebase Hades

Titan: None

Nessus: The Tangle (2), The Cistern, Glade of Echoes

Io: None

Total: 8

Summary: A group of Fallen appears with a drill, and the foes seem to be extracting Glimmer from the ground. Guardians must defeat the Fallen commanders before the time runs out. Destroy three of these “drill protectors,” and a Elite Captain appears.

The drill has a transmitter that causes it to disappear and reappear in a new location within the Sector (with stronger reinforcements) after each commander is slain. The event has 1-3 (usually 2-3) waves of this that become progressively harder.

Heroic Objective: During each wave, a small Glimmer refinery appears near the drill, for up to three refineries at the third wave. Destroying the refinery at any location prevents that refinery from appearing at the next wave location.

Heroic objective commences when you’ve destroyed a total of three refineries. The drill explodes, dropping its precious cargo of Glimmer onto the ground.

Guardians must stand in a capture ring on the Glimmer to transmat it while defending against waves of Fallen reinforcements, including a Boss Captain that spawns halfway into the transmat progress.

Completing the Glimmer transmat before the time runs out grants you Heroic tier rewards.

Injection Rig

“An undeniable display of Red Legion military force”

Overview: The Cabal command is about to deploy a mobile outpost into the Sector for an information-gathering mission. It can also be seen as a show of force. You have a golden opportunity to assault and destroy this valued Cabal asset and help inch back their invasion.

Locations:

EDZ: The Gulch, Sunken Isles

Titan: None

Nessus: The Cistern

Io: None

Total: 3

Summary: A Cabal ship appears in the sky and drops in a mobile Cabal injection rig base with a Spirelord (Infiltrator) Psion and some reinforcements. You are instructed to kill the Psion.

Once this occurs, the spire activates a defensive purge and creates a force field around the rig. Guardians and enemies inside this shield receive burning damage that continues to inflict pain until death, unless you (or the enemy) evacuates out of the field.

Once the purge is completed, another Psion spawns, and this foe requires you to kill them. Then, a second purge occurs, and the process repeats one more time. So, you have a total of three Infiltration Psions to defeat and three purges to avoid.

The event doesn’t end there, however. After you’ve defeated the third Psion, a Valus Centurion arrives via drop pod.

Naturally, there are additional Cabal forces (Legionaries, Incendiors, and some frightening Gladiators) that also attempt to stop you. These are secondary targets, but you may be required to defeat them before you’re safe enough to tackle the Psions and Centurion.

If you have triggered the Heroic objective, Defeating the Centurion causes the spire to explode in a rather spectacular fashion, otherwise the structure jets away.

Heroic Objective: Once the event begins, and during each of the purge phases, red-hot heat vents open on the rig structure. Be sure to shoot these open vents to inflict damage. These vents are on tiers along the structure, at the top, middle, and bottom. You must destroy each tier before the next one opens (the order is top, middle, and bottom).

When looking at the vents, there are three top tier vents that open, and three middle tier vents that open. Shoot any of them, but have multiple Guardians concentrate on one specific vent to quicken this process. When the bottom tier vents are accessible, only one opens, so find it quickly.

If you destroy all three tiers of vents before the end of the third and last purge and defeat all three Psions, two Cabal Interceptors appear along with the Valus Centurion.

Now, defeat the Centurion to receive the Heroic reward. The Interceptors are not necessary to destroy, but they are a visual representation that the Heroic reward is still available.

Servitor Resupply

“Destroy the Ether Servitor clone”

Overview: A Ether Servitor leads a Fallen incursion into hostile territory. They are supplying Fallen in the area with Ether, but Guardians have one surefire way to halt their plans: destroying the Servitor Boss before it escapes.

Locations:

EDZ: Outskirts, Firebase Hades

Titan: None

Nessus: Watcher’s Grave, Exodus Black

Io: None

Total: 4

Summary: A Fallen Ketch flies over, and a skiff arrives and spawns a Boss Servitor. This foe periodically selects a Guardian (“Servitor’s chosen”) and teleports them to a new location close to the event.

If this is you, expect to receive an overshield but be prevented from being selected again for a period of time.

At certain health thresholds, the Boss Servitor draws power from a spawned Elite Servitor, who it keeps shielded from attacks. You must slay this smaller Servitor as a priority to remove the Boss Servitor’s shield.

When the Boss Servitor is reduced to 50 percent health, expect three Elite Servitors to appear and tether themselves to the Boss. The Boss then gains power from the Elites and becomes super-charged (and more difficult to damage) until the Elites leave around 30 seconds later.

Expect additional Fallen (or other Combatant) foes in and around this event. Unless they are tethered to the Boss Servitor, they are not priority targets.

Heroic Objective: If the three Elite Servitors are killed before they disappear (during the middle of the event), or before the Boss Servitor becomes shielded again, Heroic Mode is activated.

When this happens, the Boss tethers and kills any remaining Fallen, and it becomes supercharged for the remainder of the event.

A supercharged Servitor is easily spotted (it has a glowing nature), receives less damage, and has a faster and deadlier attack.

The Servitor then teleports all Guardians engaged in this event high in the sky above the event location. Use your jump abilities so you survive the fall.

Stronger reinforcements continue to appear. Defeating the Boss Servitor is necessary while it is supercharged; do so before the time is up, and you receive the Heroic reward.

Spire Integration

“Prevention of Vex sacrifices is key to success”

Overview: Those with previous Destiny experience may remember a similar event to this. A gathering of Vex close to an appearing Vex conflux is becoming an increasing problem. Prevent the Vex from sacrificing themselves at the conflux.

Locations:

EDZ: None

Titan: None

Nessus: The Tangle, Watcher’s Grave, Hallows, Glade of Echoes, Exodus Black

Io: Giant’s Scar

Total: 6

Summary: Look for a Vex conflux materializing, with around three Harpies guarding it. Shooting one of these Harpies or moving close to the conflux (a floating squat tube-like object) begins the event. Vex enemies start to appear in directions around the conflux and move toward it to sacrifice themselves, continually replenishing their numbers.

The event concludes when the conflux is fully charged (too many sacrifices have been made; Guardians have failed to stop Vex from reaching and merging with the conflux) or when the timer runs out.

The plan is a simple one: eliminate Vex before they reach the conflux.

Heroic Objective: Though you may be concentrating on the conflux, look for three capture plates materializing around the event.

They periodically phase out and reappear throughout the event. Standing on any of these capture plates contributes progress toward a beacon activation.

Multiple Guardians capturing a plate at once increases the speed of progress. Vex Fanatics target those Guardians standing on the plates, and they periodically sacrifice and explode near you.

Look for the beacon; it spins faster and lights up as more progress is made. When complete, the beacon deactivates and sinks into the ground. When the beacon has been activated, the Heroic objective is triggered.

Guardians now must contend with increasingly difficult enemy waves, including Vex Cyclops and a Boss Hydra.

At the end of the event, if fewer than three sacrifices were remaining when the Heroic objective was activated, the count is increased to three. Ending the event with at least one sacrifice remaining grants Guardians the Heroic tier rewards.

Taken Blight

“Kill infected Taken to damage the Blight”

Overview: A mysterious dark presence appears in this Sector, attempting to infect the land itself with Taken energy. Only by destroying the infected Taken can Guardians damage this larger impenetrable Blight.

Locations:

EDZ: The Sludge

Titan: None

Nessus: None

Io: Lost Oasis, Giant’s Scar

Total: 3

Summary: An infected Taken Blight (a globe of writhing rift energy) appears and crackles its dark power into the ground to spawn a shielded Taken pylon (a dome-shaped rift with a central black bulb) and a horde of Taken troops. Taken enemies continue to appear close to the pylon and are bathed in an unnatural “aura” when they are close enough to the Blight.

If a Taken with an aura is killed, the infection energy returns to the Blight, causing it damage. When enough infected Taken are killed, the Blight leaves and reappears in a new location, beginning another wave. It is also possible to enter the pylon, aim for the central bulb, and destroy it in this manner.

There are three waves, each lasting around 90 seconds, with a slight increase in time for each of the two subsequent waves. You must slay enough infected Taken to progress to the next wave, with the second and third waves requiring even more kills. Such slaying is shown in percentage terms.

Heroic Objective: Note that for each wave, additional pylons will appear. One spawns in the first wave, two spawn in the second wave, and three spawn in the third wave. Your objective is to destroy three pylons within 20 seconds. Complete this, and the Blight collapses and spawns a Boss Taken. Defeat the Boss, and the Heroic reward is yours.

Weapons Exchange

“Destroy the Fallen Walker”

Overview: Those with previous Destiny experience may remember a similar event to this. The Fallen are caching their most powerful weapons in strategic locations to prepare for future assault. Led by a Scorch Captain, a handful of Fallen land and bury their Scorch Cannons in capsules in the ground, then return in triumph to their ship. You have a chance to interrupt the process (and steal some of their weapons!). The Fallen will drop a Spider Tank if you attack to defend their caches. Take down that tank!

Locations:

EDZ: Outskirts (2), Sunken Isles

Titan: Siren’s Watch, The Rig

Nessus: None

Io: None

Total: 5

Summary: The Fallen are caching their most powerful weapons in strategic locations to prepare for future assault. Once Guardians defeat the Fallen Captain, an Arsenal Walker drops in to defend them. You must slay the Arsenal Walker before the time runs out.

If you can knock loose the plates protecting the Walker’s legs, the tank will kneel, exposing its vulnerable engine. Watch out for its deadly cannon and shock grenades!

Heroic Objective: Three weapon caches surround the Arsenal Walker, each with two generators that you can access using an Arc Charge. Each time a leg plate is blown off the tank and the tank kneels, Arc Charges spill out of this enemy. Carry the charges to any of the generators and interact with them to deactivate the generator. You must do this twice. Once the generators are deactivated, you can grab the shock cannons inside.

If Guardians can unlock all three weapon caches, a second Arsenal Walker appears, signaling the Heroic objective. You must now contend with and destroy both of these spider tanks.

Defeat them both to receive your Heroic tier rewards.

Witches Ritual

“Disrupt the Hive Wizards’ dark chant”

Overview: A secretion-covered Hive nest in the central interior chamber of the Titan Arcology platform rig is the setting for an inhuman ritual where a formidable Hive Wizard is sought by its brethren underlings. Slay them all!

Locations:

EDZ: None

Titan: The Rig

Nessus: None

Io: None

Total: 1

Summary: Two shielded Hive Wizards are performing a ritual to attempt to open a Hive portal. Guardians must capture the sigil plates around the interior chamber to disrupt them; this also makes the Wizards vulnerable. Hive Knights are defending the sigils and must be slain. Capture both sigil plates and subsequently slay both Wizards, and a Boss Wizard spawns from the main portal in the chamber.

Heroic Objective: This objective becomes available in the time after the two shielded Wizards are killed, but before the Boss Wizard appears. Look for two shielded Hive crystals that appear on the columns of the portal.

You need to recapture the sigil plates to remove the shields of these crystals.

Destroy one crystal at a time, as shattering weither of the crystals gives you additional time to destroy the second crystal. Note that the amount of time left is represented as glowing runes on the portal columns.

With the second crystal destroyed, a Heroic objective is awarded. A Darkblade Boss Knight appears from the portal, and defeating this foe grants you the Heroic tier rewards.
