Assault on Cabal Barrier 1

Super: Recommended

Grenades: Recommended

The liberation of the Last City begins. Start by executing some careful jump drops to the ground (let’s not start this mission by cratering, okay?). You can maneuver your drops to land on a low roof of a building to the right, if you want. This gives you some height to lay waste to Legionaries as you head up a rubble-filled street. Tackle four Legionaries by the small kiosk, then head farther up the street to a courtyard where a main force of Cabal is guarding a barricade (the orange energy wall to your left).

Open up and Let Me In

The Cabal barriers here, and throughout this mission, they’re on a timer. You need to keep an eye on the orange energy walls, and pass through them when they disappear. These walls usually open after you’ve neutralized all immediate Cabal threats. However, they close quickly, leaving you to face the same threats again. This can continue for a while, so always head through the open barricades as quickly as possible, even if there are foes left in the previous area.

Prepare to fight a few Legionaries, two or three Phalanxes, and a Centurion with a Solar Shield. A Super and grenades early on are great, as you have time to recharge these Abilities for the assault on the second barrier. Use the cover of the crates and the Cabal dome on your right, and stay close to the left side of the rubble-filled courtyard, where the barrier wall is.

An Incendior and Phalanx reinforcements arrive; after that, expect the same initial forces (Legionaries, Phalanxes, and a Centurion) to head through the barrier wall, so break off the engagement and head through the doorway. If you don’t, you’ll simply have to finish the foes again, and watch for the next time the doorway opens. Should you see other Guardians in this space, it is recommended you team up with them for maximum firepower. Help them return to the action by resurrecting them!

Assault on Cabal Barrier 2

Super: Recommended

Grenades: Recommended

Once you’re through the first barricade, head along the remains of an ornate concrete walkway by a canal, cross a bridge, and proceed up a rubble-strewn street while quickly dropping around eight Psions along the way. There are Phalanxes on the opposite (right) side of the canal and Legionaries around the bridge. You can ignore them, if you’re in a rush.

Slow down at the next courtyard, though. There’s a ruined building to your left (good to jump onto and use to strafe foes below you), a Cabal dome on your right (good for cover), and Legionaries to strafe. Expect 4-6 of them, a couple of Phalanxes, an Incendior, and a Centurion (with a Solar Shield).

Defeat all of them, and six more Legionaries appear from a side entrance and behind the dome and ruins, followed by a Centurion (Solar Shield), Phalanxes, and an Incendior. The reinforcements are the same as before. At this point, look for a break in the barrier and flee; it’s usually after the second wave of foes are vanquished.

Bazaar Thoroughfare

Super: Recommended

Grenades: Recommended

Leap onto a balcony, and head into a market bazaar corridor with two levels; stay on the upper-left level to gain a height advantage. Shoot a Psion from range before backing up and concentrating your firepower on a charging Gladiator.Expect around eight Psions and a second Gladiator as you turn the left corner slightly and reach a stepped courtyard area. You can rush through, stand and fight, or back up and wait for foes to reach you so you’re not overwhelmed. Exit via the open iron doors ahead and left.

Market Courtyard

Super: Recommended

Grenades: Recommended

Head up a number of stone steps leading to a market with a large archway on the upper far side of a courtyard teeming with heavily armored Cabal foes. The easiest way through here is to simply ignore all enemies and jump, then sprint through the archways, as this area has no barrier you need to wait for.

If you elect to stand and fight, you may want to slow down. Drop the Legionary halfway up the steps, then slink around to the left, ascending over the rubble and using the various columns in the courtyard as cover. Dispatch two Phalanxes and strafe in and out of cover while bombarding the head of a Centurion, your priority target. When he falls, resume attacks on the Phalanxes and a couple of Incendiors (depending on which is threatening), and mop up a couple of Legionaries to clear the area.

Sprint along and up a series of corridors and rooftops until you can see the Traveler and the draining of the light. A set of rooftop maneuvers to the rally point is now called for.

Cabal Confrontations

From this point, attacking the Cabal, especially those on rooftops you don’t need to reach, is purely optional. Since you have a series of death-defying airborne platform maneuvers to complete, remain focused on the route to take instead of combat antics.

Rooftop Maneuvers

Super: Optional

Grenades: Recommended

Take your time, looking to the right from the initial rooftop, and jump to the yellow metal stairs on the subsequent roof. Land on the ivy-covered cabin roof, watching for a Legionary and other Cabal diagonally ahead and left of you, on a rooftop you can optionally jump to and secure.

If you head across, leap to the curved platform where the first Legionary was, then jump so you don’t fall short. There are Legionaries, Phalanxes, and a Sub-Boss Incendior to deal with.

A better plan is to simply stay on the right side and jump across to three tiny square-shaped grate platforms attached to vertical poles. Prevent

yourself from overshooting these targets by steering in the air so you hit the vertical poles and drop down, or hit the jump button again to descend if your Guardian power allows it.At the third tiny platform, look ahead and right, then jump to a building balcony (attached to a green tenement block). Then stop!

Just around this corner is a Scorpius sentry gun. Step out of cover, shoot it or lob a grenade, then step back. Simply running at it gets you mowed down. Move to where the Scorpius was, and take one of the diagonal gantry girders to the yellow building, swing right, leap up where the ladder is, then look left. Ahead is an outdoor covered rooftop. Jump to it, slaughtering a Phalanx and Incendior as you arrive. There are a second Phalanx and a Legionary on the upper level.

Work your way around to the edge of the rooftop and jump to the balcony on the rally point building (with the salmon-colored semi-circular neon lighting). Drop an Incendior and a couple of Legionaries as you move up and right to a final set of steps and finally rendezvous with your team. With your Guardians badly wounded, it’s up to you to finish the leader of the Red Legion yourself! Cayde opens up a teleport; enter at your own risk.
