Ore Grinders Chamber
Super: Recommended
Grenades: Recommended
Warning!: Restricted Zone
Head through the linking corridors into a large chamber. You see a series of circular chute doors to your left, masses of ground-up rock on the floor ahead of you, and a massive grinder along the right side of the chamber, where you can easily defeat two Legionaries. Ghost recommends that you get this grinder started, so head over to the control room on the opposite side, dropping two more Legionaries. Save the exploding canisters for the main fight to come. It seems the Red Legion is using the remains of the planet Mercury as fuel.
Search the grinder control area for a selection of fusion cores (ball-shaped objects you can grab), and carry one to the console with the circular open door. Insert the core, and the massive grinder closes up and starts removing the huge rock wall that’s preventing your progress. While it eats away at your exit option, Red Legion are inbound. Prepare for a protracted battle.
Remain on the control room side of the chamber, and snipe at the Legionaries and Phalanxes dropping in close to where you entered, along with a pack of War Beasts on the right side. These foes are immediately joined by two Gladiators, and they are your priority targets. Shoot them in the head as they bound and jet-pack their way across the chamber. Because you’re on raised ground by the grinder controls, they can’t quickly charge you, affording enough time for you to drop both of them without a lot of tricky dodging.
Then, concentrate on nearest foes, with War Beasts and Phalanxes top of your list. When the control room starts to get overrun, jump out in the chamber, and fight the Cabal among the rocks. Incendiors have joined the throng, and other foes (usually Legionaries and Incendiors) are dropping in from the large circular chute doors opposite the grinder. Know where your reinforcements are coming from, and drop a grenade (from a launcher, as well as your ability) if you can. Jumping in and shotgunning foes in the face is amusing and works well, as does landing on scenic objects for a few seconds so you aren’t swarmed on the ground.
Bound to the raised entrance platform where you came from, too; the height helps you waylay foes so they have to use their jetpacks or the ramp. Detonating Incendiors and blasting all explosive canisters is another excellent plan, as is using your Super.
Sub-Boss: After the first wave of enemies, expect a named Centurion with a Solar Shield to appear. Treat him just like any other Centurion: blast his shield with an appropriate Energy weapon and aim at the head, shrugging off other attackers so this Centurion dies before his shield recharges.
With the enemy defeated in this area, the grinder finishes burrowing, allowing you access deeper into the Almighty.
