Destiny 2 eGuide Public Events

Overview

Public Events are enemy incursions that all Guardians within a public space Sector can join in to thwart. There is either zero or one Public Event active in your Sector at any one time. Public Events become available from the very first moment you’re able to explore the European Dead Zone, once you complete Campaign Mission: Spark and you have access to this word. They appear randomly. There are two types of Public Events: “Full” (sometimes known as “Heroic”) and “Secret” (sometimes known as “Hidden”).

Public Events

These are easily found when available. Your HUD will receive a countdown timer to the Public Event when in the same Sector as the event along with a waypoint merker on your map. You may sometimes also launch a Public Event from a flag located at one of two possible main locations within the Sector. If your Sector does not have a Public Event that is active, check your in-game map, which also shows Public Events that are expected in other Sectors on the World where you are located. Full Public Events are always timer-based and require you to work together with other Guardians to stop an enemy invasion. Rewards are usually Loot Caches and Glimmer.

Heroic Completion

Public Events can be completed in either normal mode or heroice mode. Finish a Public Event, and depending on your actions, you can receive a good, better, or best rating. These are explained later in this chapter. Finish a Public Event perfectly, which requires a special set of circumstances explained in this chapter, and expect to receive additional rewards. This is known as completing the “Heroic” requirement of the event.

Secret Events

The second type of Public Event is almost completely hidden from view and usually chanced upon. There is no grand announcement; there’s just a brief text message in the lower-left area of your screen giving you a clue that a certain Secret Event is active, and this doesn’t happen all the time. These Public Events are much smaller in scale and have a variety of rewards ranging from engrams from a foe you defeat to a Boss Chest.

Secret Events do not have a “Heroic” or ranked way to complete them; you either finish this type of event, or you don’t.
