Destiny 2 Guide › Director › European Dead Zone

The Dark Forest

Sector Notes:

Campaign Mission: Spark—Pt. 2

Usually Inaccessible

Can’t see the forest for the trees? That’s because the inner Sectors of this strange, foreboding, and sacred area is only accessible during Campaign Mission: Spark—Pt. 2. You revisit this location twice. Each time, you locate an Artifact randomly dropped by enemies that allows you to unlock the remaining two Subclasses of your Guardian. This is achieved by fighting the denizens of the Dark Forest and communing with the Shard itself. To enter the Dark Forest, approach it via the small sunken stream and waterfall, along the northern perimeter of the Sludge.

Areas of Interest

Pool and Portal

Once you enter from the Sludge (to the south), unless a Patrol is active, this area is deserted. If the Mission: Spark—Pt. 2 is active, a Taken portal appears in the middle of the shallow pool at the north end of the Dark Forest. This is the only way into the Dark Forest area.

The portal transports you to a rocky gully in the Dark Forest Sector, which is made up of three separate exploration areas you access via portals.

The Dark Forest Glade and Lake (Inaccessible)

Inaccessible unless the mission is active. Several ethereal statues greet you during the mission while you are en route to a confrontation with Fallen (visit #1) or Taken (visit #2).

Portal (Inaccessible)

Inaccessible unless the mission is active. Once you defeat a group of Fallen (visit #1) or Taken (visit #2) in this rocky pool of shallow water, a portal opens, depositing you inside a railroad tunnel.

Railroad Tunnel and Forest Floor (Inaccessible)

Inaccessible unless the mission is active. Exit the tunnel, seeking more answers from ethereal statues of Guardian mentors. On your way back from the Shard, expect combat during both trips.

Portal (Inaccessible)

Inaccessible unless the mission is active. A portal at the end of the Forest Floor section deposits you in the final location of the Dark Forest: a large lake where the Shard is.

The Traveler’s Shard (Inaccessible)

Inaccessible unless the mission is active. This is where you commune with the Traveler’s Shard and gather your lost power. This is done after you defeat any Fallen foes (visit #1) or Taken enemies (visit #2). Then, you must retrace your steps all the way back to the different portals before you exit. Along the way, expect fierce resistance from the enemies you’ve previously faced.

Campaign Mission

Spark

Although this mission doesn’t start here, it is the only quest that allows access deeper into the Dark Forest Sector. Commune with the Shard here to receive your Guardian’s other two Subclass powers.
