Mass Effect: Andromeda Collector's Edition Guide › Secondary Ops

Uncovering the Past

Mission Type: Heleus Assignment: Voeld

Prerequisite: Chapter 2; complete “Remove the Heart”

Start Location: Voeld

Unlocking: Complete the mission “Remove the Heart.”

Investigate the Ice Cave

Voeld: Ja Niihk, Frozen Dig Site

After bringing down Ja Niihk’s shields (by completing “Remove the Heart”), you gain access to the interior of the smaller kett base (1). Find the entrance to the ice caves by following the heat lamps that line the gorge pathway. Take out Chosen as you advance. The Anointed at the end of the ravine poses the biggest threat.

Continue chasing the navpoint to eventually arrive at the tunnel cave entrance (2), which has a steel-reinforced doorway. Prepare to fend off Chosen and another Anointed on the other side.

Clear Out the Kett

Ice Cave

Soon you reach a high ledge (3) overlooking a large chamber with kett scrambling along the floor below. Destroy these four Chosen before jumping down into the chamber.

There’s a new navpoint (4) in the middle of the cave system that (when you look at your map) emits a field engulfing the entire map. You don’t need to travel to this navpoint; the map field merely indicating you should clear all the kett out of the cave. Jump off the ledge and work your way through the cave, keeping to the rightmost pathway until you spot an angara in a cage (5)

Rescue the Captured Angara

Find caged angara in the southeast (5) and northeast (6) corners. Rescue them (5). Continue northward, following the heat lamps, to battle more kett and open two more angaran cages (6)(7). Kill the kett and free the prisoners.

Talk to the Rescued Angara

Now that you’ve rescued all the angara, talk to the angaran former captive who stands between the two cages. He leads the others safely back to Techiix. When pressed, he also tells you the kett are trying to get into a room behind a nearby wall (8). He hints that you could use explosives to punch through the ice. As for what’s behind the wall, all he knows is it’s some sort of old machine that may still be functional.

Forgotten History: Angaran Artifact

Before you blow up the ice wall to see what’s in the secret cave, head to the small room in the northwest corner of the cave to find an angaran artifact behind some crates (8). This is part of the artifact quest “Forgotten History.”

Go to the Blockage

Head to the ice-covered doorway (9) and scan the blockage. It comes up as frozen water a few meters thick. A hollow chamber is detected on the other side.

Clear the Blast Zone

Head back the way you came and duck behind the barrier (10). The ice blockage explodes from the doorway.

Enter the Chamber

Enter the now-accessible north cave (11). Follow the short tunnel to a large, open ice cave housing a strange machine (12). Approach this apparatus to interact with it.

During your conversation with the mysterious and ominous ancient AI, you have potentially two important decisions to make. The first: Choose to kill the AI when it attacks the angaran captive who’s followed you into the cave, or allow the AI to live. If you allow it to live, then decide to either work with it by choosing “Keep AI to work with SAM,” or give it away by selecting “Give AI to the angara.” If you choose to kill the AI, you shoot it, destroying it immediately.

There are no adverse reactions to either choice. You earn much XP and AVP, and with this quest completion under your belt, along with completion of the Remnant monolith and vault challenge, Voeld can accept an Initiative outpost. Exit the ice cave the way you entered.
