The Codex is an information repository, managed and authored by SAM, and serves as a log of Ryder’s exploits throughout the game. SAM adds a new entry whenever a notable person, place, or object is discovered (or examined with your scanner).
Many entries are dynamically updated when new information is available regarding that particular Codex subject. Updates to the Codex are displayed in an activity log to the left of your HUD during normal gameplay.
For convenience, the Codex is organized by context, with entries placed into relevant folders:
- The Journey So Far…: Events and breakdowns of major decisions you’ve made as well as your relationships with squadmates and support crew.
- Finding a Home: Major events revolving around the Initiative’s primary mission (Priority Ops) can be found here.
- Agent of Change/Exploring Heleus: Both contain entries that go over decisions and results of optional side quests, detailing your decisions and their consequences.
- A Crew Like No Other: These are updated entries regarding the relationship between you and your crew.
