Speak to the Exile

Kadara: Haafel

You come across some people living in a hut (1); they’re acting strangely and babbling nonsensically. Speak to the exile crouched near the bed. He seems more put-together than the other two in the room. He goes on about a datapad someone left in the hut and how everyone is going out of their minds. Investigate the cause of their odd behavior.

Examine the Datapad

Pick up and read the datapad from the floor at the foot of the bed. It’s an observation log, what appears to be someone’s notes on the effects of a drug on the various species in the room.

Scan the Three People

Scan all three of the people in the room: a salarian, an angara, and a krogan. The scanner data comes up with the same result for each of the subjects—an unknown signal is targeting the brain and interfering with mental activity. SAM traces the source of the signal, and a navpoint appears on your map not far from the hut.

Locate the Source of the Mysterious Signal

The signal seems to be emanating from a nearby building (2) on the hill. Enter the building.

Speak to the Scientists

Scan the large electromagnetic processor on the left side of the room when you enter the lab, then talk to the two scientists inside. You ask them what they’re doing to those people, and they reply that it’s an experiment and that no physical harm has come to the subjects. The scientists used to work for Cerberus until they started wanting to bring people back from the dead. Their experiment aims to connect everyone’s consciousness to create a supercomputer. You can probe them for much information that leads to Knight’s organization (See Firefighters). In the end, SAM locates the source of the mind-control signal, and you tell the scientists you’re shutting it down.

Before you leave the lab, scan the neural analysis machine for Research Data. Accessing the terminal next to it allows you to catch up on their research, as well as review the record of termination for the project from higher-ups at Cerberus.

Alter the Mind-Control Signal

In the same lab, interface with the mind-control device (the electromagnetic processor you scanned on the left when you entered). You have three choices. You can turn the signal against the scientists as punishment, freeing the people in the hut. The scientists will likely suffer complications as a result. Or you can alter the nature of the signal to ease the victims’ predicament, and lock the system from further changes. Lastly, you can do nothing and just walk away. You earn a small amount of AVP and +2% Kadara Viability no matter what you choose. Stick around and listen to the scientists start babbling.
