Personal Background

Jaal comes from a powerful and influential family. His family is large—since the angara use “collective parenting,” he has several siblings and mothers (in addition to his ‘true mother’). They’ve been fighting the kett for decades, and for the most part, fighting a losing battle until the rise of the Resistance.

Although Jaal has only the basic education permitted by the kett occupational forces, he is unusually smart and very quick. He lives in the shadow of his more accomplished siblings and joined the Resistance because it was expected of him. He’s yet to find his true calling and eagerly joins

Through illegally obtained documents and experimentation, Jaal has taught himself a great deal. As a side interest, he has made it a personal mission to disseminate the angaran history, traditions, and culture through whatever means he can.

Fighting Style and Combat Tips

Summary: Jaal fits the role of an assassin and infiltrator, especially once Avenger Strike is unlocked (by investing at least 18 skill points in his other powers). As such, he prefers to use a sniper rifle, fighting from a safe distance and only engaging in close-quarters combat when necessary. He’s also adept at taking out shielded foes with Energy Drain and knocking back groups of foes with his Sticky Grenades.

Synergies: Jaal pairs well with an aggressive Ryder—one who can take the heat off of him while he positions himself to snipe enemies. This is especially important if his Avenger Strike is unlocked. With Avenger Strike leveled, Jaal becomes an angaran ninja, cloaking in behind his target to deliver a sneak attack with his blade.

Notable Power Spikes: Investing at least 18 points in Jaal’s skills unlocks Avenger Strike, which changes much of how he fights. He engages into melee range much more often since he essentially teleports behind the enemy, infiltrating their ranks. Although the attack is powerful, be sure to back him up!

Both Rank 5 upgrades of Energy Drain are excellent; they add a combo priming property to the ability, allowing you to follow up with a detonation.

Auxiliary Drain (Energy Drain, Rank 6) gives Jaal support capabilities, restoring 33% of the squad’s shields in a large eight-meter radius.

Weaknesses: Like Peebee, Jaal can be difficult to keep alive if the squad is overwhelmed. Try to keep him nearby or behind cover using the Squadmate Orders functionality. He does have some survivability built into his combat kit, but Energy Drain’s recharge time is rather long, so it’s unreliable until its recharge speed is upgraded.
