HOW DID YOU FIRST BECOME INTERESTED IN A CAREER IN VIDEO GAMES?
I’ve been playing and building levels for games since my early childhood. It didn’t occur to me to do it for a living until much later.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN ON THE TEAM?
More than three years on Mass Effect: Andromeda, and nearly nine years at BioWare.
GIVE THE READER AN IDEA ABOUT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY TASKS.
I work with artists, gameplay designers, writers, testers, and production on a daily basis to plan and execute missions for our current game. We discuss what we want to do, write up a plan, and then put the different pieces together while making sure everyone stays on the same page.
WHAT WAS THE TRICKIEST TASK ASSIGNED TO YOU?
Tutorials! They are some of the most difficult things to do right and one of my missions contained several of them. I worked with the writing team and went through several iterations to get them done.
WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF CONCERNING THE GAME?
Two of my missions had to be combined into one longer mission. It was the largest single mission I’ve ever built, and finishing that was immensely satisfying.
WHAT DO YOU FEEL HAS THE MOST IMPACT IN MAKING THE MASS EFFECT SERIES STAND APART FROM OTHER VIDEO GAMES?
Compelling characters and the player’s ability to make choices. Becoming invested in the characters I met and feeling like my player character was truly mine got me hooked on Mass Effect.
