Mission Type: Heleus Assignment: Nexus
Prerequisite: Nexus Phase 2, after Kadara opens
Start Location: Nexus Commons Area
Unlocking: You get an email from Captain Dunn when you reach the docking bay.
Read Email from Captain Dunn
You get an email from Dunn, asking you to come speak to her after Kadara opens during “Hunting the Archon.”
Meet with Dunn on Hyperion’s Habitational Deck
Hyperion: Habitation Deck
After receiving the email from Dunn, talk to her (1) in the atrium on the Hyperion habitation deck. She alerts you to an issue that needs to be handled discreetly. One of Harry’s medtechs snuck on board a sick relative who has a rare illness that could be contagious in its later stages, and now the relative has gone missing. To keep the station from going into panic, this will need to be taken care of without anyone knowing, including Director Tann.
Speak with Harry in the Cryobay
Hyperion: cryobay
Talk to Dr. Carlyle (2), the one taking care of your sibling. He gives you the details on his employee and the employee’s sick aunt. The illness is TH-314—deadly, highly contagious in the latter stages, and capable of jumping across species. There’s no cure, no vaccine, and she’s nowhere to be found.
Symptoms in later stages include bouts of paranoia. TH-314 becomes virulently contagious and airborne at Stage 3. So far she’s the only one with it, and it’s still at Stage 1.
Speak with an Immigration Officer in the Docking Area
Nexus: Commons Area
Take the tram to the Nexus commons. Head to the northeast corner and talk to the immigration staff member (3), without causing a panic, to get last-known-location information on the infected subject, Ruth Bekker. The immigration staff member says there was a problem with Ruth’s file, so she restricted Ruth to the commons area. SAM says you can retrace her steps with your scanner.
Search for Ruth Bekker’s Previous Location
Phantom Ruth can be spotted at the following locations: the immigration station, the display cases, walking toward the tram, trying to enter the tram, walking toward hydroponics, entering the Vortex Bar (4), standing by a table in the bar. Scan her image in the bar to complete this current objective.
Gather Information at the Vortex in the Nexus Commons
Ask around the Vortex in the commons area. Speak with bar patrons about Ruth. Speak to Dutch (bartender) and then the salarian, Lator Valon, at the bar. Lator directs you to operations. Don’t ignore Lexi, who’s in a booth drinking. Talk to her before you move on.
Speak with Teron in Nexus Ops
Nexus: Operations
When you speak to Teron (5) in Addison’s office (front desk at a console near the window), you discover that Ruth was headed for the commons area. He said she didn’t look so well, and he doubts it was stasis sickness.
Investigate the Docking Bay
Nexus: Docking Bay
Speak to Samuel Francoeur (6), who’s sitting on a bench outside the cultural center’s first-level doorway (near the immigration station). He says a lady blindsided him and stole a shuttle. The shuttle has likely left a radiation trail, as he blew a hole in the side of it with a blowtorch when she hit him over the head. Make for the Tempest (7).
Investigate the Stolen Shuttle’s Trail
Upon entering the Tempest, Suvi confirms they’re ready to track the shuttle. You can find points of interest to travel to in the Solminae and Anasa systems. Scanned anomalies in these systems turn up as radiation trails. Investigate them further to get a scanner reading that confirms you’re tracking a Nexus shuttle stolen by Ruth Bekker. Finally, you’re directed to the Govorkam system and to Kadara.
Find the Shuttle on Kadara
Kadara
Kurinth’s Valley
While in northwest Kadara (usually during the quest “Emergency S.O.S.”), you discover the quest navpoint (8) in the deep northwest. Approach the shuttle wreck at the navpoint. You comment on Ruth being contagious. SAM says there are no life signs.
Investigate the Crash Site
Pick up the shuttle cockpit recorder next to the ship and listen to it. You learn Ruth has been abducted.
Track Ruth Bekker
Scan the tracks (9) on the road below another set to the north (10) in the same road. After scanning the second set of footprints, you see the building in the distance. You need to enter this building (11).
Investigate the Building
Lay down an Assault Turret (if you have one) in the drive near the crates to create a distraction while you attack from the crates in the front yard.
Defeat the Roekaar
Defeat all the Roekaar Raiders on the various levels of the outpost.
Unlock the Door
Enter the first-floor side door of the facility. Interact with the console on the left wall. This unlocks the door on the second level. There are scannable items in this room, as well as a container of loot and a couple datapads worth reading—“Contamination Room” and “Medical Report.”
Confront the Roekaar Leader
Choose an Outcome
Run upstairs, following the navpoint to an unlocked door. When you enter the room, you’re confronted with a terrifying situation. A Roekaar holds Ruth Bekker at gunpoint. She screams for you to get out, that she’s contagious. The Roekaar cell leader tells you she will die if you don’t let him go. Ruth says he has the virus sample and asks you to just shoot him.
Ruth Dies
If you choose not to let the leader leave, Ruth is killed. You then battle the Roekaar and defeat him. Ruth’s body is placed in a stasis pod.
Ruth Lives
If you choose to let the leader leave, Ruth lives. Ruth is placed in the stasis pod afterward. This concludes the quest, and you earn a good amount of AVP.
