Mass Effect: Andromeda Collector's Edition Guide › Game Mechanics › Game Mechanics Glossary

Augmentations

Augmentations are research schematics that upgrade a piece of equipment (not to be confused with hot-swappable mods). Augmentations can only be applied to crafted items and only during the actual development of the piece of equipment being augmented. Augmentation slot counts can vary between items. Additionally, the Innovation Cryo Pod Perk automatically adds an additional augmentation slot on all developed items. Also note augmentation type limits in the augmentation’s description—unique designations such as “Gun Projectile,” “Special,” and “Mods” have a one-augmentation limit of that type, while generic augmentations can be stacked.

An augmentation’s effect can vary drastically depending on what piece of equipment is being augmented. For example, a Battlefield Assist Module augmentation provides a +20% damage bonus if it’s installed into a weapon. If installed into a chest piece, it gives the wearer +25% damage resistance when their health drops below 20%.

Augmentations are refunded when the item is deconstructed. This is especially important for augmentations purchased via Research Data, since you can only ever buy these augmentations once. If you want to keep these augmentations, do not sell the augmented piece of gear—instead, deconstruct it so you can reuse the unique augmentation.
