The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind eGuide Training Skills Guild Skill Lines

Mages Guild

Maximum Rank: Mages Guild 10

Maximum Investment: 19 Skill Points

The Mages Guild skill line offers a variety of useful Magicka abilities, making it an excellent skill line for players focused on spellcasting. If you plan to utilize Mages Guild abilities, prioritize Maximum Magicka, Magicka Recovery, Spell Damage, and Spell Critical.

Ultimate Ability

Meteor

Meteor is a powerful area-of-effect attack that deals Flame Damage to all enemies within the target area. Affected enemies are also stunned, knocked back, and afflicted with a Burning damage-over-time effect.

As an Ultimate Ability, Meteor offers a great mix of damage and crowd-control effects. It has a moderate Ultimate cost and some intriguing morphs, making it a good option for Magicka DPS builds.

Ice Comet

Converts the attack to Frost Damage, increases the damage done, and snares affected enemies.

Shooting Star

Grants you 12 Ultimate for each enemy hit.

Active Abilities

Magelight

Activating Magelight reveals any stealthed or invisible enemies within six meters. Exposed enemies cannot return to stealth or invisibility for three seconds. While this ability is slotted, you also receive Major Prophecy, increasing your Weapon Critical rating by 2191.

Magelight is a great tool in PvP, but its slotted bonus makes it useful in any situation—and both of the available morphs improve the benefits of slotting this ability.

Inner Light

Also increases Maximum Magicka.

Radiant Magelight

Reduces the cost and increases the radius of the reveal. Also prevents the Stun effect and reduces the damage taken from incoming stealth attacks.

Entropy

Entropy combines a lengthy damage-over-time effect with a bit of healing. It also grants you Major Sorcery, increasing your Spell Damage by 20% for 20 seconds. Put simply, Entropy is a low-cost spell with some great utility.

Degeneration

Your light and heavy attacks against the target have a chance to heal you.

Structured Entropy

While slotted, your Maximum Health is increased.

Fire Rune

Fire Rune is essentially a damage trap—it takes two seconds for the rune to arm itself, after which it lasts up to 30 seconds. When (and if) it’s triggered, the rune deals Flame Damage to all enemies within the target area.

This ability is most useful in PvP; use it to hinder invading armies, or to help protect key locations during siege warfare.

Volcanic Rune

The enemy is knocked into the air.

Scalding Rune

Enemies also take Flame Damage over time.

Equilibrium

Activating Equilibrium sacrifices a portion of your Health to restore Magicka. The exchange renders you unable to heal yourself for four seconds—though you can still receive healing from other players.

Equilibrium’s Health cost might be an issue for more fragile builds, but it’s a great resource-management tool for well-defended casters.

Spell Symmetry

Reduces the cost of your next spell.

Balance

Adds 5280 Physical and Spell Resistance.

Passive Abilities

The Mages Guild skill line contains five Passive Abilities. Persuasive Will is a single-rank Passive; all other Mages Guild Passives offer two ranks.

Persuasive Will can be a time-saver when you’re out questing, but it doesn’t have any effect on combat performance. This makes it a better fit for leveling builds than for characters used in Veteran content.

The remaining Passives offer great benefits to those who favor Mages Guild abilities. If you plan to make use of this skill line, consider investing in all combat-related Passives.
