Are you still reticent about learning one of these “non-combative” professions? Then put your love of killing things to good use by completing crafting writs—a number of repeatable quests that reward you with Experience, gold, supplies, and other valuables!
Becoming Certified
These types of quests are only open to those who’ve been certified in a particular profession. Becoming certified involves fulfilling a set of criteria (usually reaching Level 6), and then finding a master in your chosen profession and completing a training quest for them. You can also start a certification quest by reading the Writ Board, located in every major city. Note there are two types of board: one relating to writs for equipment (Blacksmithing, Clothing, and Woodworking), and the other for consumables (Alchemy, Enchanting, and Provisioning).
Completing a Crafting Writ
Once you’re certified, return to either a Consumable Writ Board (for Alchemy, Enchanting, or Provisioner writs) or an Equipment Writ Board (for Blacksmithing, Clothing, or Woodworking writs). Take a writ you’re interested in, and fulfill the contract stated on it. This is almost always the locating of products, goods, or items; the possible creation of those things; and the delivery of them to the individual requesting them.
As well as receiving Inspiration and other possible minor rewards, finishing a crafting writ may give you a survey report. Like maps to treasure, these show some high-yield harvest nodes only available to you, now that you’ve finished the writ. Go there and grab them! Provisioners do not receive survey reports; instead, they have a chance of obtaining a new recipe.
Master Writs
When you’ve mastered your trade skill, you can expect to receive a Master Writ, which is a slightly more involved writ compared to a crafting writ. While a crafting writ usually involves your Homestead, Master Writs are awarded more often to those supremely dedicated to their craft, though they may also be given out upon completion of crafting writs.
For Alchemists: The larger the number of translated runes, the higher the probability of being awarded a Master Writ.
For Enchanters: The larger the number of reagents you’ve learned the effects from, the higher the possibility you’ll receive a Master Writ.
For Blacksmiths, Clothiers, and Woodworkers: If you have excellent knowledge of styles (Racial Motifs, especially the more esoteric ones like the Celestial or Minotaur Motifs) and are well into your trait researching, expect a Master Writ.
For Provisioners: If you have a good knowledge of the higher-quality (purple and gold) recipes, expect a higher number of Master Writs to be awarded.
Master Writs require you to complete a similar contract to a crafting writ; for example, you may receive an Alchemy writ requiring you to make a specific poison. The difference is the reward: you receive Writ Vouchers. Master Writs are also sealed, so they can be stored, sold, or traded as you wish—or undertaken, of course!
Finish a Master Writ, claim your Writ Vouchers (a non-transferable currency), and spend them at a trader in any large city that sells items for your Homestead. Need a Blacksmithing Station? How about some Legendary plans for furniture? Spend your Writ Vouchers to obtain this booty!
