Now that you’ve finished the quest and/or bought your first home, you have a new menu (Collections > Housing). As new houses are being added all the time, a complete list of homes isn’t available, but it’s worth looking around some example dwellings of each type so you know what it’s going to take to own one. You can also access homes in the Crown Store, or walk to any of the dwellings in Tamriel and physically enter to preview it. Access the Housing menu to preview each home in an unfurnished or furnished state, to see if it’s right for you. However, to purchase the home, you require the following:
- A certain Achievement must be met (if you aren’t buying from the Crown Store).
- Completion of Quest: A Friend in Need (if you aren’t buying from the Crown Store). It is only necessary to complete this quest with one character per account.
- You must have enough gold or crowns (from the Crown Store) to purchase (either unfurnished, or furnished at a greater cost). Furnished homes can only be purchased with Crowns.
- For Imperial-style homes, you need to own the Imperial Edition game to purchase with gold. Anyone may purchase them with Crowns.
- Access to the Crown Store for store-exclusive properties, which aren’t available to purchase with gold.
Once the purchase requirements are met,, the house is yours!
House Types
Homes are divided into three categories: Staple, Classic, and Notable. Think of these as small (including inn rooms and single-room homes), medium, and large homes (including manors), respectively. There’s usually one home type for each race, so pick the one most aesthetically pleasing to your eye. Note that each house type has a maximum set of items, trophies, special items, and visitors it can accommodate, listed as follows. Values in parentheses indicate the maximum if you have an ESO Plus account.
Home Example: Staple (Inn Rooms)
Furnishings: 15 (30)
Trophy Busts: 1 (2)
Assistants, Mounts, or Pets: 1 (2)
Visitors: 2
Extremely modest, bordering on meager living, the inn room you can obtain for free by completing Quest: A Friend in Need house little more than your personal belongings. However, this is a good place to test out the Housing Editor and furnishings you can make or purchase. There are four inn rooms available, though the one received from the quest depends on where it was completed: Vulkhel Guard, Daggerfall, Ebonheart, or Vivec City. The remaining inn rooms can be purchased for 3,000 gold.
Home Example: Staple (Apartments)
Furnishings: 50 (100)
Trophy Busts: 1 (2)
Assistants, Mounts, or Pets: 1 (2)
Visitors: 6
A step up from the inn is an apartment chamber, which offers an affordable alternative to a house. There are three to choose from, all alliance-based, and these allow you a comfortable living, assuming you like to live without copious amounts of furnishings. Prices range between 11,000-13,000 gold.
Home Example: Staple (Small)
Furnishings: 100 (200)
Trophy Busts: 5 (10)
Assistants, Mounts, or Pets: 2 (4)
Visitors: 6
These homes offer cheap costs for small areas, and some lack exterior courtyards. These should be an initial purchase, especially if you haven’t learned a craft or amassed enough gold to fill up the abode. There are 10, one for each race, so expect a home to suit your needs. Homes start at 40,000 gold if you aren’t buying them from the Crown Store.
Home Example: Classic (Medium)
Furnishings: 200 (400)
Trophy Busts: 10 (20)
Assistants, Mounts, or Pets: 3 (6)
Visitors: 12
If you’d like an assistant, mount, and pet to live in one home; you’re starting to really get creative with your furnishing crafting; and you’re expecting some guild members to come around for sweetrolls, why not purchase a roomier place with multiple levels? There are 11 initially to pick from. You’ll need 190,000 gold at a minimum, though!
Home Example: Classic (Large)
Furnishings: 300 (600)
Trophy Busts: 20 (40)
Assistants, Mounts, or Pets: 4 (8)
Visitors: 12
With a starting price of 760,000 gold, you’ll need some sizable coffers to purchase one of these sprawling estates. Expect upward of two floors, expansive grounds, and a couple of unique features you can uncover during the preview. If you’re throwing a party and you’re a more seasoned adventurer with gold reserves to match, pick one of these 11 homes.
Home Example: Notable (Manors)
Furnishings: 350 (700)
Trophy Busts: 40 (80)
Assistants, Mounts, or Pets: 5 (10)
Visitors: 24
If wallowing in ostentatious grandeur is one of your life’s goals, then the opulent manors of Tamriel should be on your list. Though simply speaking of the price of these palaces is considered gauche (don’t expect much change from close to four million gold), you could hold a small army in the grounds.
Home Example: Crown Store (Unique)
From time to time, additional homes exclusive to the Crown Store are available for purchase. Keep in mind that this is the only method of purchasing these; no gold is used. Such homes usually have a few esoteric or unique features to tempt you. Keep a lookout for these!
