The Beard Makes the Man

Mission Briefing

Claptrap needs a beard to increase his magic power. As he is a robot, however, he is incapable of growing one. He’s asked you to kill some dwarves in the Mines of Avarice by luring them into the mining equipment. If you can collect some of the bloody facial hair that results from the carnage, you can forge it into a brand-new beard!

The Art of Humane Beard Extraction

Claptrap wants his beards undamaged by gunfire, so you’re going to need to kill five dwarves in a very specific way. Equip the Grog Nozzle that Claptrap gave you, and shoot it at some dwarves in the mining area southeast of Claptrap. The drunken dwarves give chase; lead them up the hill to the giant smashing machine, and when they’re between the walls, hit the green button on either side of the machine to squash them flat.

Intoxicating the dwarves is necessary, it helps complete an optional quest objective.

Once you’ve gathered five beards, take them to the Gilded Forge in the eastern part of the map. This area becomes accessible while you’re searching for the third dwarven letter, so try to collect the beards early and do your forging while you’re at the forge for the puzzle-solving part of “Dwarven Allies.” Bring the completed beard to Claptrap to receive your award, and then accept the “My Kingdom for a Wand” quest.

There are plenty of dwarves on either side of the machine, so don’t worry if a beard gets lost in the explosion.

Don’t stand there like an idiot punching the forge. You’re actually supposed to strike it with a giant hammer that descends from the ceiling.
