Borderlands 2 Game of the Year Guide › Bestiary

Hyperion: Constructors

The baddest general units in the robotic workforce of the Hyperion Corporation, Constructor Bots, or simply Constructors, can form a beachhead all by themselves. They’re heavily armored, have only a tiny weak point, and are mostly immune to several types of damage. A Constructor can land near or right on top of a contested position, then use on-board defenses to whittle away at enemies while the Constructor digistructs Loaders to bolster the forward position.

Constructors are far too heavy for Maya to lift them with Phaselock, nor for Singularity grenades to even budge them. They’re also immune to Thoughtlock. While they are practically immune to status effects (only effects like Scorn or Cloud Kill that set a gas right atop the Constructor work even briefly), Constructors still take bonus Corrosive damage on impact, because of their thick armor.

Constructor

TVHM name: Constructor v2.0

The basic Constructor model can build standard Loaders and Surveyors (not Badasses) to protect the Constructor itself. While a Constructor is digistructing a Loader, you can shoot the red sensor eye to interrupt the process. This eye is sometimes concealed with a prismatic shield that reflects bullets back at you, preventing criticals for a bit.

The Constructor itself is hardly helpless. If you’re in front of it, the sensor eye can shoot right at you with a homing laser. And no matter where you are, the Constructor can fire rocket pod missile volleys either directly at you, or in a high mortar-like arc that may strike you even if you’re behind tall cover! Ideal cover against a Constructor involves a place with a covered ceiling. If you feel comfortable trying, the missile volleys themselves can be shot down, which is a somewhat old-school arcade experience. Finally, the scariest thing a Constructor can do is to launch nukes at you, but at least this usually comes with a very loud, very robotic announcement, and the nukes themselves are fired in a tall, sluggish arc. Shoot the nuke(s) out of the air, or get under something with a secure roof.

Constructor Turret

TVHM name: Constructor Turret v2.0

Constructors may produce turrets, which are most annoying in that you may not even notice they’re there, until they’re shooting you in the back. If you’re attentive to their presence, they’re easy targets to crunch.

This damaged but functioning Constructor Bot shows up during a climactic battle at the End of the Line.

Badass Constructor

TVHM name: Badass Constructor v2.0

Like standard Constructors, Badass versions shoot direct, arcing, and nuclear missile volleys. Badass Constructors fry you with a triple eye laser from in front, rather than just one beam. In addition to the sensor eye in front and the rocket pod up top, there are also now two underbelly autocannons on either side. Like the rocket pod up top, these guns can be individually destroyed if you focus fire on them. They add a lot to the firepower of a Badass Constructor, because they keep firing, while the Constructor itself attacks in waves.

Badass Constructors are capable of producing Badass Loaders and Surveyors, which can’t be said of standard Constructors.

W4R-D3N

Your first Constructor encounter is with the specialized model that’s detaining a hostage important to your progress. You must destroy W4R-D3N quickly, before a few minutes expire. If you fail, W4R-D3N and its hostage will be airlifted away, and you’ll have to hunt them down and repeat the attempt elsewhere.

Bring along a good Corrosive weapon to keep that from happening—knock the Constructor’s shield down quickly with Shock grenades or a Shock weapon, then dump Corrosive damage right into the vulnerable red sensor eye as fast as you can!
