Bad Hair Day

Mission Briefing

Sir Hammerlock asked you to find some bullymong hair so he may decorate his hat with it. In order to collect the hair from the bullymongs, you’ll have to weaken them with gunfire, then finish them off with a melee attack.

Availability: Speak to Sir Hammerlock in Liar’s Berg after completing “This Town Ain’t Big Enough.”

Gateway Harbor

Sir Hammerlock has decided that his hat is sorely lacking for some bullymong hair, and being that it’s been quite some time since Liar’s Berg has hosted a proper haberdasher, he’s asking you to improvise. The Gateway Harbor area of Southern Shelf is home to no less than four distinct bullymong dens. One is located south near the entrance to Southern Shelf Bay, whereas the three others are located far out on the ice to the west (areas highlighted on the in-game minimap). No matter which den you approach, you’re bound to encounter all manner of bullymongs, ranging from Monglets to Adult bullymongs and the dreaded Bullymong Slingers.

The key to collecting bullymong hair is to use your guns (or grenades) to sufficiently weaken—but not kill—the bullymongs. The only way to harvest the bullymong hair is to deliver the fatal damage with a melee strike. There are more than enough bullymongs to go around, so don’t worry if you do inflict fatal gunshot damage in the heat of the battle. After all, you only need to collect the hair from four bullymongs.

This Bullymong Slinger is good and weak—perfect for cutting down with this bladed pistol!

Check your inventory to see if you have a bladed weapon that offers enhanced melee damage. If so, be sure to equip it even if only to administer the fatal blow. This might keep you from having to swing away several times to finally kill the bullymong. A blue waypoint icon highlights any dropped bullymong hair.

Pick up the bullymong hair before you lose it in the chaos of subsequent bullymong battles.

As you collect the hair, you’ll hear Claptrap and Sir Hammerlock vie for your attention in hopes of convincing you to trade the bullymong hair to one over the other. If you need a shotgun, give it to Claptrap. If you prefer a sniper rifle, then give it to Sir Hammerlock. At this point in the journey, unless you either strongly dislike sniping or are playing as Salvador, opt for the sniper rifle reward from Sir Hammerlock. That said, giving the bullymong hair to Claptrap does have the added bonus of seeing him sport the hair as a mohawk, just as Sir Hammerlock jokingly predicted.

Even if you prefer a sniper rifle, it may be worth giving the hair to Claptrap just to see him in a mohawk!
