The Fridge
The girly magazines are all in the south end of Frigid Cleft; two are in cars, and one is on a stack of crates.
Fast Travel back to The Fridge and step out into Frigid Cleft in the direction of the nearest area waypoint. Despite wanting you to find some flowers for his girlfriend-turned-rat, Scooter is willing to pay you double if you find him three girlie magazines. All three of the magazines are in this southern section of Frigid Cleft, not far from the roadway. You can find two of them in the burned-out husks of automobiles, while the third is sitting atop a crate.
Soften up the Volatile Crystalisks from atop the bridge, then drop down and finish them off with melee attacks.
The flowers, on the other hand, are scattered around a much larger area in Icemaw Grotto. Head north along the road in Frigid Cleft toward the Volatile Crystalisks. Equip your most powerful single-shot non-elemental or Explosive weapon, and pick off a few of the Volatile Crystalisks from atop the elevated road. Even if you can only manage to shatter one or two legs from the nearby Volatile Crystalisks, this still makes it much easier to kill them up close with melee attacks. Clear the immediate area of Volatile Crystalisks, then set about finding the five flowers.
The flowers Scooter wants you to find grow out of the rocks along Icemaw Grotto and are long and red in color.
Flowers alone won’t win Laney back, so Scooter wants you to find her some food, too. An old pizza delivery van had crashed on the northern end of Icemaw Grotto, spilling five pieces of pizza all over the nearby rocks and debris. Some of the pieces of pizza can only be reached from above, requiring you to scamper up the nearby pile of rocks and leap over to the piece of broken roadway to get the less accessible slices.
All five pieces of pizza are in close proximity, but you’ll need a small bit of jumping prowess to reach all of them.
Now that you have the pizza and the flowers (and maybe a few girly magazines for Scooter), it’s time to head south along Frigid Cleft to the locked entrance to The Rat Maze. Set the flowers and pizza down near the yellow-and-black striped gate, and wait for Laney White to make her appearance.
Don’t pretend for a second that Laney White might go back to Scooter—hit her with everything you’ve got the second the gate opens!
Laney is in no mood to return to Scooter and is quite content living with her seven Midget rats. In fact, she’s willing to fight you to the death if that’s what it takes for her not to have to go back to Scooter. Activate your Action Skill as soon as the gate opens, and don’t give Laney White a chance to attack. Hit her with Fire attacks and don’t let up, else her Midgets will attack and buy her enough time to recharge her shields. With Laney dead, you’re free to kill her Midget companions and help yourself to the chest in the room where they made their home.
Fairest of Them All
This Challenge awards you for killing Laney White before any of her Midget companions die. If you follow the strategy outlined above, you shouldn’t have any trouble completing this task. The only possible issue could be a Sabre Turret that decides to target a Midget instead of Laney White or possibly a grenade that deals a little too much splash damage in the wrong direction. But as long as you manage your collateral damage and focus on Laney, this shouldn’t be too hard to earn.
It’s Off to Hell We Go
This Challenge is the exact opposite of Fairest of Them All: earn this award by killing all of Laney’s Midget companions before killing Laney herself. Though it can be difficult to track all of the Midgets as they scurry about, you can take your time in fighting them and rely on the Midgets to Second Wind if necessary. Laney White has a decent shield, so it’s actually much harder to accidentally kill Laney White than it is to inadvertently kill one of her Midget companions.
