Vault Hunter to the Rescue!
Descend the steps to the bar and head down the hall to the right, to the elevator straight ahead. The bar has filled with patrons once again and you’re free to start up another fight (perhaps to farm Moxxi’s Portraits), but this isn’t necessary. There’s always time for gunfights later on; you’ve got a sponsor to save!
Ride the elevator into the basement, and drop off the platform into the sewer-like arena below. Pyro Pete, the fourth highest ranked badass in the tournament, is waiting for you.

Pyro Pete is what you might call a pyromaniac, as if his name left any doubt. This helmeted foe wields dual flamethrowers and carries a large fuel tank on his back. The metallic exo-skeleton gives him the look of an engineer, but he doesn’t have the ability to shake the ground like the Torgue Engineers you fought upstairs do.
Pyro Pete is shielded, so those with a potent shock-based weapon will want to put it to use against him. Pyro Pete is immune to fire attacks, but corrosive attacks do eat away at both his skin and metal suit and can whittle down his shield and health. Melee attacks are particularly effective against Pyro Pete, since he has trouble hitting targets at close range. Similarly, it’s possible to stay far enough away to avoid his flamethrowers and attack from long range. Pick either extreme and stick with it, unless you’re sporting a shield that provides protection from burn damage.
During the fight, several Sewer Spiderants enter the arena. Avoid killing them, as they are your ticket to an easy Second Wind if you get downed. Instead, focus on Pyro Pete exclusively. Keep him bathed in corrosive acid or slag, and wait to activate your Action Skill until his shields are down and/or you’re starting to take heavy damage. There are two ammo replenishment machines in the arena.
Now that you’ve killed Pyro Pete, it’s time to find the sponsor. Pull the lever on the floor to lower the lift, then ride it up to the platform above. Continue through the sewer pipe to enter the Incredible Smell Sewers, where you’ll find two treasure chests and Moxxi, the kidnapped sponsor.
