Throwing Your Hat in the Ring

It pays to have a set of wheels in the Badass Crater of Badassitude.

So you want to enter Mr. Torgue’s tournament to see who the biggest badass in all the land is and earn a shot at opening the Vault? Well, there are a couple of things you’re going to have to do to get started. Hit up the vending machines on the right to free up some room in your backpack, then use the green-glowing computer terminal near the stairs to register for the tournament.

Now that they’ve got you on the competitor roster, you’re ready to head to the Arena. Use the Catch-a-Ride up ahead to grab yourself a vehicle (a Catapult Bandit Technical is best). Descend the hill and launch off the jump with the arrows on it to drop into the center of the crater. The Arena lies due north, beyond the settlement.

Mr. Torgue forgot to inform you that only sponsored combatants can enter the tournament, so you’re going to have to impress the local sponsors and hope one of them notices you. Fortunately, a man by the name of Pyro Pete sends a number of his goons to attack you in the streets. Stay in your Catapult Bandit Technical, and fling barrels of explosives at them. This is a particularly useful tactic if you’re beginning this campaign at level 14 or below. Continue north, and use the same tactic to take out Momma’s boys. The lady they call Momma throws a bit more foes at you than Pyro Pete did, but they’re no match for your Bandit Technical!

It’s man versus machine!

Gather up the loot dropped by Momma’s boys and advance on foot toward the Arena entrance. There’s one final wave of bandit scum coming your way, care of Mr. Torgue himself. Draw your sniper and pick off any Bikers or Rioters you spot from a distance, but switch to something a bit more robust for the Torgue Enforcer. This beast is similar to a Goliath—don’t knock off its helmet unless you want to enrage it—and can become quite the handful if you’re not careful. Pepper its body with assault rifle ammo, or set it aflame with an elemental weapon.

Your skill on the battlefield succeeds in catching the eye of a sponsor, and it just so happens to be the top-ranked contestant, Piston. Meet him at the entrance to the Arena to become an official entrant.

Enforcers behave like Goliaths—avoid shooting them in the head unless you like doing things the hard way.

Badass Crater of Badassitude

The Badass Crater of Badassitude is a vast, sand-covered wasteland populated by all manner of motorcycle gangs trying to make a living in the area surrounding Torgue Arena. The area’s gangs have made quite a home for themselves in the narrow canyons leading to the other zones and also under the fractured remains of the former highway. The news of the Vault has attracted some of Pandora’s familiar faces to Badass Crater. Vault Hunters hoping to enter the tournament will find the area much easier to navigate with a Light Runner.

Cult of the Vault

Climb the ladder behind the “We Got This!” billboard near the Seraph Crystal Shop, then turn around to face the building to the south. The Cult of the Vault symbol is inside the shack on the roof. Run along the railing behind the billboard, and leap over to the roof to reach it.

Go behind the “We Got This!” billboard, and continue past the Seraph Crystal Shop. The Cult of the Vault symbol is located above a platform inside a fenced-in area with yellow crates.

Enter the area just outside of The Beatdown entrance, and head up the steps on the side of the first building on the west-hand side of the street. The Cult of the Vault symbol is on the back wall.

Drive a vehicle up the hill to the left of the Badass Crater Bar and off the ramp to the section of raised highway leading toward Tiny Tina’s camp. The Cult of the Vault symbol is near the edge of the overpass, in the right-hand lane.

As Advertised

This first treasure chest is behind the large Torgue “We Got This!” billboard south of the entrance to the Arena. Climb the red-and-white ladder near the Seraph Crystal Store, then cross the catwalk to get it.

Locate the Torgue billboard above Scooter’s garage near the entrance to The Beatdown. Climb the ladder in the back corner of the Catch-a-Ride station, and carefully tiptoe along the zigzagging path to reach the chest behind the billboard.

Fan Club Membership

There’s a hut high atop the cliffs in the eastern section of the map, not far from the first Catch-a-Ride station you see when you Fast Travel to this region. Head up this path and tiptoe across the metal beam to reach the step-like platforms. Continue up the path along the side of the cliffs to the shack containing a treasure chest to complete this challenge. One of the recorders you’ll need to find in the “Interview with a Vault Hunter” mission leads you here.

Only Shells I Need are in My Guns

The Tier 3 Death Race requires you to drive two laps in 1:45. This challenge is virtually impossible to complete without equipping The Afterburner relic and using the two elevated highway shortcuts. See the mission tactics in this section for details.

I Can Fly

Line your vehicle up with the large ramp with the flames flanking it, and use boost to fly off the ramp at top speed. Be sure to allow the boost to fully charge and trigger it as you cross the racetrack to ensure that you get enough speed before launching from the ramp.

Mission Briefing

Welcome to the Torgue Arena! You’ve got a sponsor—a hulking bag of muscles and anger named Piston—and now it’s time to enroll in your first event. Piston has you head to the nearby Battle Board and sign up.
