The Hacker
Your goal is to complete your download while remaining undetected. Initiate the download from a safe distance. Stay hidden. Do not injure the target. If detected, escape. The hacker should also attempt one or more of the following overall tactics:
Hiding Spot: Try to find a hiding spot before starting the download. Starting the download in the open is risky. Always start from cover if you can. It’s much better to be in a hiding spot and remain there than move around after the hack begins.
Other Hiding Spots: Remember that maneuvering above or below a target, such as on rooftops or underground parking garages, is also a great place to hide, as the foe must work quickly to find you. You can pretend to be a pedestrian walking or hide in a car (which doubles as a getaway vehicle); however, pretending to be an innocent citizen doesn’t fool many targets, especially as you’re easy to spot and uncover once the hack begins.
Target Reaction: The target becomes aware of your hacking attempt as soon as you start the download. Be ready.
Download Zone: Once the download is started, the download zone appears around you, and gets smaller over time. You must stay within it to complete the download. If you exit the zone, a timer will warn you to get back inside. Failure to comply will abort the hack and will not net you rewards.
Send in the Drones: You can first find a good hiding spot, then send your drone (the Jumper, or better yet, the Quadcopter) to start the hack. You will be safe and secure when the Target becomes aware of your hack, though your drone leads your Target back to you, so use either device with caution.
Camera Hack: Other options include using security cameras to cycle through to a target from a remote location, so you aren’t immediately obvious to the target.
Distractions: Create distractions to confuse the target once the download is started. These include vehicle hack cars near him to make him think you’re inside or calling the police or gang members on civilians to start a fight and cause noise. Remember this can be done by drone, too, so you don’t have to leave your hiding spot.
Look up: Pay attention to the sky. You can shoot and destroy a target’s Quadcopter before they see you, if you’re quick enough.
Escape: If you’re discovered, you must escape; harming or attacking the target will abort the hack attempt and you will not receive rewards. Perform all the necessary escape techniques as if you were losing a tail during a Heat felony.
The Target
You must locate and eliminate the enemy hacker, who is hiding in the purple zone. NetHack can reveal the hacker’s identity. Reveal the hacker in vehicles by getting close to the vehicle.
NetHack and You: NetHack is a powerful tool that helps you find the hacker more easily. Civilians you target in NetHack change colors and fade out if they aren’t the hacker, and you can keep track of who you already checked this way. However, when the zone shrinks (once the hack is a certain percentage complete), the data is scrambled and the civilian’s colors will reset.
NetHack and Drone: Try combining the NetHack view and either of your drones (especially the Quadcopter) for effective searching.
Inspecting Vehicles: When inspecting vehicles, you have to get close enough to see if the driver is the hacker or not.
Remote Vehicle Hacking: If you suspect the hacker is inside a vehicle but it’s too far away to inspect the driver, try vehicle hacking the vehicle: this reveals the hacker, if they are present. The exception to this is the mass vehicle hack.
Stopping an Escape: When a hacker is found, they usually attempt an immediate escape. Hack and remotely control their vehicle to stop them, then hack steam pipes and other environmental explosives to hinder any escape route they have.
Grenade Launcher Goodness: It’s handy to have a portable projectile punter to dramatically improve the chances of stopping the enemy. If you can stand blasting innocents, using this indiscriminately to flush out a foe is another option, though the chaos this causes could benefit the escapee.
