After visiting the Hackerspace for the first time during your initial Main Operation, you’re able to enjoy the sport of motocross. Engage in off-road motocross trials in and around San Francisco . There are six available trials, though the final one (Tale of Two Bridges ) remains locked until you’ve achieved Gold in the first five events. The following tips provide tactical advice for each course.
Off-Road But On Course
It’s important to know the bike you’re using: For five of the six events, it’s the excellent Kuruhawa 450 (bought from Auto Elite), which has great traction off the tarmac and a fantastic top speed. For the Oakland Open trial, it’s the Batta (bought from Total Motors), a high-performance ATV that’s prone to oversteer. Why not purchase both of them so you can practice first? Note you use each vehicle in a trial whether or not you purchase them.
Motocross events are great for seeing all the best off-road trails the Bay Area has to offer. If you perfect all six courses, you can use these paths during operations or when outrunning the cops during a Bounty Hunt.
Ensure you have the Engine Override ./Research ability so you can boost during trials. Add extra Botnet capacity (up to 20) so you have longer boosts; use this as needed during races, and victory is almost assured every time (unless you make more than two or three crash-based errors)!
Use this boost during straight sections of road, tarmac, and uphill areas where your vehicle might lose speed. Even if you have 20 Botnet resources, you’ll still run out of juice during a race, so make these boosts last. Also boost after crashing so you don’t lose as much time.
You also have the Vehicle Directional hack, but this also uses up Botnet resources you should be saving for your boost. Avoid vehicles instead of hacking them out of your way.
Did you crash? Then you still might claim Gold if you don’t crash a second or third time. Usually it’s best to automatically reposition yourself behind the last checkpoint than manually move to a bike you’ve fallen off. The same is true if you miss a checkpoint; don’t waste time driving around to position yourself near the checkpoint.
There are ramps, wicked air opportunities, and landings you need to complete every time. Check the specific tactics to see whether you should really go for a ramp. Land so the back tire hits the ground just before the front one and you’re heading straight ahead (rather than pointing diagonally). Otherwise, you may fall off at the landing.
Look ahead at least one archway checkpoint so you can see where the future ones are, and line each up ahead of time. Can’t see a gate? Then you may need to make a sharp corner turn!
Remember to also periodically check the course on your minimap to see any potential tight turns to come. Also use the Nudle Map to see the entire race map (without checkpoints), or check this guide’s map for the complete route.
Since you’re heading off-road, know that there will be many unforeseen objects, problem landing opportunities, and traffic as you cut across roads. This means each race isn’t quite the same each time. If you find yourself crashing a lot, just restart the trial (in the Game Options menu).
Need to be the very best? Shave seconds off your time by heading through the outer edges of each illuminated gate, if that allows you to make a quicker turn. Otherwise, stay in the middle during straightaways.
