Boats
Motor-Based Boats
Boats with a motor—motorboats, fishing boats, speedboats, and water taxis—have a similar accelerating and braking mechanism to cars. They are extremely proficient at maneuvering from landmass to landmass (e.g., Marin to Oakland) if you don’t want to take a bridge.
The speedboat (shown) is wide and fast, the motorboat is wide and slightly slower, while the fishing boat is average in speed but narrower. However, any of the craft (except for the water taxi) are more than adequate for any water-based activities you have planned, and they certainly beat swimming! Don’t underestimate boats; they can allow you to flee from a police chase and force the cops to switch to aquatic craft to bring you down!
Sailing
The Side Operation involving racing sailboats and sailing a boat you may steal or purchase requires a knowledge of wind direction. There’s a knack to this, explained in the World and Activities section of this chapter.
