Horse

Your faithful steed Roach has three enhancing items you can equip him with, and these are detailed in this chart.

BLINDERS

Upgrading the horse's blinders will decrease it's visibility during combat. This allows you to fight from horseback for a longer period of time before the horse becomes spooked and runs away.

SADDLE

Upgrading the saddle will increase the horses' natural endurance allowing the player to cover more ground before the animal tires.

SADDLE BAGS

Upgrading the saddle bags increases the number of items you can carry before becoming encumbered by the weight.

FAST-TRAVELING AND HORSES

Is it best to walk, fast travel or ride a horse to your destination? Generally, this depends on your personal playstyle and different modes of travel will provide different benefits as you progress through the game. With hundreds of locations to explore and encounters that arise along the way, choosing to walk or ride from one location to another may be as rewarding as the new destination. If you simply wish to head back to town or visit a major city, Fast Travel points will take you there in the shortest amount of time.

DON'T PANIC!

Fighting from horseback will eventually cause the horse to buck it's rider to the ground before running a safe distance away from the squirmish. To prevent this from happening, remember to keep moving, timing heavy attacks as you ride by.

VESEMIR'S LESSON

Don't forget your Witcher training. The Axii Sign ability can be used to keep the beast calm during intense situations. While it doesn't last forever, you may find it's just enough to escape when you're surrounded.
