Difficulty

Brief

We have intel on a convoy loaded with cash heading to the cartel bosses in Mexico. The loss of the convoy will disrupt cartel ops and drive a wedge between El Sueño and Nidia Flores. Take out the convoy, and, if possible, El Boquita as well.

Mining for Information

Only a few hundred meters from Remanzo Alpha, or a little farther away if you want to start it in Koani province, there’s an informant at a local mine who has intel you need. Simply speak to him, then head off to find El Boquita, who’s in a small outpost about one and a half clicks west, near the edge of the salt flats.

Locotal Mine: Recon

Head to the Locotal Mine, which has no enemies present, and speak to the target, an informant usually leaning on the balcony of a cabin set on the excavated slope of the mine. He gives you the location of El Boquita; simply talk to him.

Tailing the Little Moth

Head almost due west one-and-a-half clicks, and you’ll find a small outpost on the shore of the salt flats. You can take the road, or the rough hillside terrain to reach here. You must spot El Boquita, and then tail him as he leaves. Engaging the enemy is not required.

Outpost: Recon

TACMAP

This is a small roadside relay for cartel vehicles, with El Boquita finishing up a meeting with a captain in the south of the mission area. He leaves heading south. There’s a small yard, a secondary building and sniper across the road to the west, and a hillside with a minigun tower to the east.

North Road

This isn’t close to the mission area, and your drone may not reach if you let it go from here. This is good for clearing a few foes on either side of the road, but you risk mission failure if you’re spotted.

West Salt Flats

You can clear the west side of the road, including a troublesome sniper, and then launch a drone from here. The target is then easy to spot and follow, and there’s minimal interactions with the enemy. It’s easy to get to a vehicle from here, too.

South Road

This is a great location to stop at, as long as you’re far enough away from the road so that when El Boquita leaves and passes you by, you aren’t spotted. Just send up a drone and tag him, and you’re done.

East Hills and Scrub

Perhaps the best plan if you’re wanting to sneak in and remove most or all of the foes, or avoid the enemy altogether; just be aware of the minigun and patrolling enemies. Sneak around to the south, send up a drone, find El Boquita, and appropriate the sports car, or the trucks at the gas station just slightly north of El Boquita, if you don’t have a ride.

Target: El Boquita

You call in to Bowman as soon as you send up a drone, use binoculars, or get a visual on El Boquita, who leaves in a sedan car from this point. Tail him without him getting too far ahead. Weapons are free as soon as El Boquita leaves.

Outpost: Other Tactical Advice

You’re not here to clear this zone. It’s possible, but you’re usually seen and the mission fails. In addition, La Boquita takes off as soon as you spot him (but he doesn’t see you), meaning you need to tail him immediately to avoid him getting away. Therefore, it is a simple matter of heading in from A or C, staying close to your vehicle, and using a drone to pinpoint La Boquita (E). He drives off, heading south, so stay out of his sight, ideally more than 50-150 but less than 300 meters away, and follow him. The type of vehicle, and whether there’s a teammate stuck out of the roof with a minigun, influences how easy it is for El Boquita to see you.

If you’re wanting to clear this area, start at A and snipe the minigun foe and patrolling guard in this area, then use the minigun tower to shoot the sniper across the road, and any others outside the main group of buildings. Then storm the buildings where El Boquita was, taking out the last of the foes.

You’re able to leave a couple of Ghosts at this location to quickly tackle and clear the area of cartel thugs if you want to, but it’s much better to come back here once the mission is over, and there’s no mission-sensitive objectives to complete that an extended firefight may jeopardize.

Should you attempt to clear the area, split your team and start at A and B, working into the outpost, with two team members at each location. From A, clear foes at B and remain in the middle of the outpost, slowly advancing while two Ghosts head down from the minigun tower, and catch the small cluster of remaining enemies at the gas station in crossfire.

It’s a lot easier to utilize a helicopter at this point, locate El Boquita from the air (via a Ghost passenger), and then follow him without touching the ground.

Third Time’s a Convoy

It’s now another 1.4 kilometers south to the settlement of Sacani, where El Boquita reaches and waves off the convoy, and then heads to his home. Both the money truck in the convoy, and El Boquita, are targets for termination.

Sacani: Recon

TACMAP

This village has a scattering of homes, and a large number of helicopters compared to most settlements you’ve visited. One is hovering above the convoy, making it the toughest you’ve faced yet. But there’s another parked to the north, another northeast near some rebels, and a third near C; all of which can be used (mainly in Co-op) to help thwart the convoy of two military SUVs, a helicopter, and a money truck.

Southeast: Main Road

This is the usual route to take, following El Boquita into town, and not immediately worrying about the convoy. Head to E, execute El Boquita, and then follow the convoy out of town and destroy it when there are fewer foes, along the salt flats.

South: Exit Road

This is the route the convoy starts to take. You can split your team up and mine this area before the convoy moves, or otherwise booby-trap the area, then wait for the convoy and tag the truck with sniper fire, hitting all four tires so it sits there. Then mow down the foes in the SUVs, and avoid the helicopter fire.

Northeast: Salt Flats And Rebels

This is a good infiltration point if you’ve split your team in Co-op, and one is heading in to defeat El Boquita; this offers easy access to the compound (E), and there may be rebels on the edge of the salt flats if you need a vehicle or chopper to borrow.

West: Rock Outcrop

You usually don’t get around to this angle, but if you’re in Co-op, and some of your team went ahead, you can land a chopper on this rock outcrop (or behind it) and use it to advance slowly on the convoy or the rear of El Boquita’s compound. Good sniping opportunities against both targets are available here.

Target #1: El Boquita

El Boquita parks his vehicle, and heads into the brick compound house. There are few foes to worry about: Step out of your vehicle when El Boquita becomes a target, and gun him down, lob a grenade, or run him over. Wait too long, and the convoy leaves, and can get too far away to catch. So make your execution of El Boquita quick. Or, come back for him after you chase down the convoy. This is a relatively straightforward kill.

Target #2: Money Truck Convoy

The four-vehicle convoy, comprising of a military SUV with a minigun, the money truck, and a rear military SUV with a minigun, takes a loop around the salt flats, chaperoned by a helicopter. Engage the enemy until the truck is destroyed. The SUVs and chopper are optional.

This is a standard convoy takedown mission, though the enemy has impressive military SUVs on either side of the truck. Fortunate then, that you don’t have to grab and interrogate anyone; simply destroy the truck, and be on your way. Cartel casualties are simply a bonus.

Money Truck Convoy: Other Tactical Advice

This gets a whole lot more simple if you ensure your ambush location isn’t near an enemy stronghold. You don’t need the extra and unwanted hassle of engaging cartel henchmen when all you need to do is take out a truck.

You can wave down the truck with your guns pointed at the driver, then shoot everyone (and lob in grenades from all directions). Or, you can ram him off the road (in Co-op, each use a vehicle to pin him more quickly, and from multiple sides), or bash the truck until it catches fire. Or, you can all ride in an armored truck and ram the enemy vehicle while shooting at it. Don’t forget to shoot the tires of the truck to slow it down.

Or, you can strafe the vehicles from the air, using a helicopter. Or lay mines or C4 in the road, ready to be detonated as the convoy passes over them (when the lead vehicle stops, head in with guns blazing). Or, run alongside the truck and lob a C4 or mine onto the side of it, then back up and shoot (mine) or trigger (C4) the explosion; this works most of the time when the truck is moving slowly or stopped, but can occasionally work if it’s moving (and you trigger the explosion almost instantly).

With a helicopter in the mix, this is definitely more taxing than a normal convoy takedown, so split your team up into two airborne, and two ground foes, and the two vehicles can defeat the enemy vehicles in the air and on the ground. Don’t be afraid to cripple the money truck, then retreat and regroup, remove the chopper so you’re not harangued from the air, and then return to finish the job.
