Monte Puncu is a province of the Yungas, a mountainous zone covered by a very dense jungle. The mountainous area and the jungle make it very tough to circulate in. Roads are narrow, steep and dangerous. The province is crossed by the death road, a road constructed on the slope of the mountain.

The human activity is focused on coca and coffee culture. The fields occupy the bottom of valleys or clearings carved in the jungle on the slope of the mountain. The village of Chaca Barraca cultivated coffee before the Santa Blanca arrival.

After taking control of the province, the Santa Blanca gathered the Cocaleros and proposed to buy their production at a fair price. El Yayo assisted at this meeting and convinced the Cocaleros to work for the cartel.

Finally, the Santa Blanca gathered coffee plantation owners and advised them to abandon this type of culture to focus on coca. Most owners accepted, convinced by El Yayo’s arguments. The few that refused rapidly ran away. Families found refuge at La Paz and men joined the Rebellion. As retaliation, their farms were burned.

Today Monte Puncu is the province that produces the biggest amount of coca. This is because of the actions of Santa Blanca to modernize the coca culture, such as recruiting agronomists to raise its returns. In less than a year they have transformed the traditional Cocaleros farms into experimental farms with the latest agricultural innovations.
