Super Smash Bros. Ultimate eGuide Zelda

Overview

The princess of Hyrule legend comes to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate brawl equipped as a zoning counterpuncher. She has got many attacks that have good range, powerful sweet spots at the tip, and variable aim.

Din’s Fire is intangible until detonated, curving slightly around impediments. Phantom Slash gives a grounded option for delayed, invincible attacks from a source besides Zelda herself, creating a temporary teammate. Farore’s Wind grants unpredictable, flexible, invulnerable long-range movement. Meanwhile, Nayru’s Love is used to send any of the foe’s ranged salvos right back at them.

Zelda’s pokes also follow the mission of keeping enemies at bay and nailing them with high-powered, precise hits. In particular, forward air and back air attacks both deal insane damage and knockback for aerial attacks—but only with perfect timing, and with lengthy lag after kicking. Down air, meanwhile, provides easy-to-use downward-spiking power against floating targets, especially beyond stage edges.

Her moves favor a hit-and-run, keepaway-oriented style. Zelda’s biggest weaknesses, then, are the higher-than-normal precision her attacks require, and her relatively slow, floaty speed compared to many agile aggressors. But with a measured and careful ranged game, Zelda can shine by keeping them at bay, letting them get into trouble running into her attacks constantly while coming after her.
