Super Smash Bros. Ultimate eGuide Roy / Chrom

Overview

Roy’s sweet and sour spots are the inverse of Marth’s. Where Marth’s sweet spots are the tip and outer edges of his swings and strikes, Roy’s sweet spots are usually closer and inside the inner portions of his attacks. This has a significant implication in your playstyle, as instead of fighting at the outer edges of your hitboxes and attack effects, you’re incentivized to fight more aggressively and up close, essentially at point-blank range. Using Roy’s attacks as if he’s “punching” with his sword is a great way to connect with his sweet spot.

Many of Roy’s air attacks have relatively generous sweet spots close to his body.

Roy’s main tools are: neutral attack, side tilt, down tilt, grab, neutral air attack, forward air, up air, and Double-Edge Dance. Although his combat style leans more toward aggression relative to Marth, Roy’s strengths still come from the strong zoning effect of his sword’s attack area. So while you can play him recklessly, he’s much more effective played with a more controlled and deliberate aggression.
