You can throw items after picking them up by pressing the Attack button (or the Grab button or Grab command). Items can be thrown forward, back, up, or down. Extra power can be added to the throw by flicking the stick like a smash attack, resulting in a faster, harder-hitting smash throw. You can also throw items forward while dashing, allowing you to set up a follow-up attack as the enemy is forced to shield your thrown item. See item and catch.
