Super Smash Bros. Ultimate eGuide Meta Knight

Overview

Meta Knight is a small sword-wielding fighter with remarkable aerial mobility. Like Kirby, Meta Knight has multiple double jumps. Thanks to his bat-like wings, Meta Knight is able to propel himself higher up to five times while airborne. While each air jump boosts his altitude by a small amount, simply having the ability to alter air trajectory five times affords Meta Knight incredible flexibility in his air-recovery and air-to-airgames.

Much of Meta Knight’s game plan centers around his ability to seamlessly flow between a ground game and an aerial one thanks to his low short hop, midair jumps, and quick fast fall. Meta Knight’s main damage sources are down tilt and dash attack. Meta Knight’s down tilt can cause a trip effect occasionally, potentially leading into a dash attack, while dash attacks can lead into up air attack into double jump up aircombos.

One of Meta Knight’s strongest assets is his edge-guarding game, with persistent hitboxes on his neutral air attack and early knockout potential on his back air attack (particularly as an offstage attack). Both his up and down air attacks are incredibly fast with low lag, further enhancing his offstage aircontrol.

Meta Knight can be difficult to master. While his game plan is straightforward, many of his optimal combos can be difficult to perform for novices, but they heavily reward practice and experience.
