Wolf is the heaviest out of all the StarFox fighters, and while he shares a similar special-moves kit with Fox and Falco, he plays much differently, with his fighting style centered more around baiting and punishing with heavy damage. His claw-based attacks deal more damage, have a range advantage over Fox’s normal attacks, and are only slightly slower (but still decently quick, particularly his neutral attack and grab).
Wolf’s main drawback is his ground speed, with both his walk and dash speeds being subpar. His aerial attacks aren’t as versatile as Fox’s, but each of them serves its intended purpose well, with neutral air attack and forward air standing out as staple attacks. He can also wall-jump, giving him an additional tool in his offstage recovery phase.
Wolf’s up and down tilt attacks aren’t nearly as versatile as his forward air and neutral air, but his side tilt is a remarkable ground-based punish attack with some flexibility when angled as an anti-air. Wolf’s neutral attack and grab game are solid, boasting decent range and allowing you to retaliate with good out-of-shield options that deal reliable damage.
Your general game plan with Wolf is to pressure enemies with the threat of your powerful attacks, luring out mistakes and punishing them for misplacing and mistiming their attacks. Although Wolf’s Blaster projectile is noticeably laggy, its range, damage, and travel speed are good enough to damage enemy shields, forcing foes into repositioning.
While Wolf’s ground speed is lackluster, his air mobility is superb for a heavyweight fighter. All of his special moves have positive implications for his recovery game, affording him several options and opportunities for making it back onstage while at the same time attacking his edge-guarding foe.
