Super Smash Bros. Ultimate eGuide Dr. Mario

Overview

Weighed down by his smock and stethoscope (not to mention the weight of duty conferred by taking the Hippocratic oath), Dr. Mario is a bit denser and slower than off-duty Mario. His jumps and hops are more compact and quicker to return to the ground (with the good doctor retaining standard Mario’s wall jump ability), and his attacks hit harder. If you want a little less finesse and a little more oomph behind the famous plumber’s stomping kicks, you might find Dr. Mario more to your liking than normal Mario. In some ways, he’s like a hybrid of Luigi and Mario, but with his own spin on things.

Dr. Mario improves on Mario’s spinning down air attack with the much more powerful Dr. Tornado down special (mashable for extra height). The doctor replaces down air attack with a double-boot stomp aimed straight down, great both for fast-falling on defenders with solid ground below, and for trying to spike fighters into pits where the ground drops out. Dr. Mario’s dash attack slide kick looks like Mario’s, but instead of punting victims away, it pops them straight up, creating a juggle combo opening. Dr. Mario’s challenger-spinning Super Sheet covers more area than Mario’s equivalent cape (though it doesn’t float like the cape).
