Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Guide › PAC-MAN

Overview

PAC-MAN is a floaty middleweight fighter with an unconventional move set drawn from the PAC-MAN games.

While PAC-MAN deals relatively low damage and can’t extend his combos as efficiently as other fighters can, his eccentric fighting style gives him a distinct advantage when his moves are used properly. His projectiles become items that can be picked up and thrown for added pressure, his trampoline can be used to launch himself higher and higher with repeated uses, and his odd Fire Hydrant waterspout shots can cause unpredictable effects for the enemy.

While PAC-MAN’s special moves have extended uses for him after they’re deployed, most of these uses can be turned against him. His fruit projectiles can be picked up and thrown by enemies, his trampoline can be destroyed or used to extend the opponent’s air time, Fire Hydrant can be launched back at him, and Power Pellet can be knocked out of the air, disabling PAC-MAN’s follow-up.

Your main objective with PAC-MAN is to find ways to set up his odd, yet versatile, special moves. Most of them require some kind of prohibitive start-up period, whether it’s from charging his neutral special or planting his Fire Hydrant. This means you have to defend yourself against aggressive foes with your solid aerial attacks (forward air and back air are particularly effective for deterring offense).

Once you earn a launcher-type attack, such as throw or dashing attack, you can start charging neutral special in order to find one of the more powerful projectiles, like Boss Galaxian. From there, you can throw out your threatening projectile and follow it up with Fire Hydrant setups, forcing foes to respect the waterspout pushback, especially near stage ledges.

PAC-MAN can crouch walk (faster while walking forward) and wall-jump, and has access to several flexible air-mobility tools.
