Many down air attacks can meteor smash with a clean hit from above. But some other moves can meteor smash too, like Mario’s forward air attack. This goes case by case, but almost every fighter has at least one move that can meteor smash. On a successful spiking hit, there’s a telltale sound, letting you know the smash has worked. It should also be obvious when the attack recipient bounces hard off the stage, or plummets down toward the lower blast zone.
