Falco is one of three Star Fox fighters in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, sharing a similar special moves list with both Fox and Wolf. Whereas Fox is a hyper-agile fighter and Wolf is a heavy-hitting brawler, Falco is a graceful combo-centric combatant with the highest jump in the game. While Falco is faster than Wolf, he isn’t as speedy as Fox, nor does he have huge hitboxes on his attacks, so his playstyle is much less offense-based and is more centered around waiting, baiting, and punishing with high-damage combos.
Falco’s individual strikes don’t cause absurd amounts of damage on their own. Instead, he has a plethora of combo-starting attacks that lead into damage-racking opportunities. Furthermore, most of Falco’s attacks have amazingly fast start-up times, making it much easier for him to punish whiffed and shielded attacks. Falco’s staple neutral-game attacks include: up air attack, neutral air attack, down tilt, neutral attack, forward air attack, and dash attack. However, his slower ground speed makes it more difficult for him to apply offensive pressure from range.
Falco’s jump height, ability to wall jump, and his myriad special recovery tools can potentially make him difficult to finish off. However, some of his recovery moves are predictable in their linearity, so quick-witted opponents may be able to punish him as he dashes onto a ledge.
