Stale

Attacks in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate go “stale” with repeat use, dealing less damage and knockback. Whiffed attacks don’t go stale, but those that connect with any kind of object or fighter do. Having attacks go stale is designed to discourage players from continually using the same maneuvers. However, in most situations, if an attack is working, it’s best to keep using it. In rare situations, you may want to keep a move “fresh” in your back pocket, saving it as a powerful KO move, since staleness diminishes knockout potential.
